Isley took a seat as soon as the others sat down, his weapon disappearing as well with the swordsman following Janeiro and Quantum’s lead…his inventory menu appearing and disappearing with two quick motions of his thin fingertips. The Swede offered a quick nod to the aproned cook in thanks, the steam from the rich broth wafting over his nose until finally his stomach growled softly like Quantum’s had moments earlier. As he reached to tear a piece of bread from the darkened loaf, it ripped away cleanly, the crisp crust snapping to reveal a pillow soft interior. The food was simple to say the least given their place on the first floor of Aincrad, but he was none-the-less thankful for the warmth that the meal provided, the feminine swede’s bread slowly getting dunked in the thick gravy before taking a large bite. He couldn’t help but feel guilty, knowing full-well that a life on the outside was waiting for him, driving him, and now here he was having a meal and resting with company. Isley silently pondered his own situation, taking the occasional bite with a raised spoon in one hand and a small bit of bread in the other, the young man silently accepting that even he needed to rest, or risk driving himself into the ground in his bid to escape to confines of their new reality. The quiet party-leader seemed content to eat in silence, but as soon as Quantum spoke up his eyebrows dropped slightly…The thought of knowing anything beyond their names seemed vexing to him, especially since it would be he who would have the weight on his shoulders if any of them should fall, but none-the-less he felt obligated to add to the ongoing introductions, it was after-all the teacher that was responsible for obtaining the meal and lodging that they were enjoying for the most part. The young woman appeared once more, giving the trio at the table a quick flash of her smile before placing three large wooden mugs of water beside the quickly dwindling remains of the baked loaf, three separate room keys appearing as well in short order. The fire did do well to add to the rustic simplicity of the place, the space filled with the warmth and the comforts that only the cracks and pops of a wood hearth could provide. One could only guess how lively the place could be if given a chance…and how energetic it was before the events of Rob’s quest occurred. Isley nodded to Quantum and Janeiro as they spoke their piece, instantly feeling sympathetic to the general unease that each of them had going through the motions of the conversation, an almost sudden smirk appearing on the Swede’s face finally realizing that they were about to risk their lives in a video game to help a village that only existed in the realm of computer code…it seemed almost insane…His smile faded quietly, shaking his head, knowing that the feelings of pity that he had felt for Rob and the town was real, and that real or not, the boy he had spoken to touched him in a profound way… “Well, not much to tell on my part…” Isley said, a slight chill on his tone as he pondered his answer. He had done his best to avoid any attachment in the game thus far, but it was personal questions that stirred his attitude to turn for the worst in most cases. He struggled a moment before opening his mouth once more, hesitant to answer but knowing that he had to offer something in return for the pair’s help, “I worked in finance, global energy mostly…pretty boring stuff…” The Swede added, his voice seeming to get slightly depressed as he went on, quickly moving to take the spotlight off of himself, “I used to play games quite a bit, but it seems like I picked the wrong time to pick up an old hobby…” He took another quick bite before dipping a final piece of bread into the gravy, the bowl mopped clean of its contents. |
