Quantum is a kind person, one who will go out of his way to take a hit for someone even if it would put his health into the red zone, but rather he'd just cleave the enemy in two. As for when money comes into play, he is exceedingly shrewed, and hates spending more than a single cent than necessary. When it comes to matters of PvP, Quantum hates the act of killing and would rather paralyze an attacker than deal a fatal blow. Zack Smith took to physics as a rat to cheese, finding the methods to graduating high school at the age of sixteen and having a doctorates in the science by twenty-three. While he could have gone on from there to be a memeber of a research group for pretty much whatever company he set his sights upon, he chose instead to teach his favorite subject to others and spread his delight as far as possible. While he had tried dating after getting his bachelor's degree, it was not until just a few months before Castle Aincrad began beta testing that he found someone he actually felt a deep enough connection too to ask to live with him.
It was during some of his study sessions that he learned of Sword Art Online, and after showing it to his girlfriend they both decided to take a trip to Japan to try the product from a scientific standpoint, him as a physicist and her as a psychologist. It was in the opening days that his partner in life and science was one of the first victims that Castle Aincrad would claim. He broke, and in his misery he found a new purpose after walking into a field to die. A small group of players was having trouble with a kobold, and when he realized that one of them was near death, stepped in took the blow instead. It was during the time as he watched his health bar drain that he had an epiphany, and he renewed his vigor. Now he seeks to further empower himself and devotes his life to the front lines, pushing harder than most of the other leaders for the clearing of the game and towards their freedom.
