Aaron logged in on his new game, Sword Art Online. He spawned at the plaza in the town of beginnings. The young man moved his head down and looked at his hands, leather gloves protected his hands. Moved his both legs when looking down further. The reality from the NerveGear surprised him every time when he played a game. It was like he never had an injury. He then looked around when he was finished inspecting himself and the menu. Playing games with the NerveGear wasn't new for him, the game itself was. An MMORPG wasn't a sports game where u move freely to score points. Aaron was new to the genre, he never played it. The genre might be new to him, the concept isn't. Get strong, get good gear and defeat bosses to move on to the next floor. Most people achieve this thing by playing in party's and joining guilds. Being in a guild or playing with a party was more protective for newcomers like Aaron who's in-game name was Arkize.
Arkize didn't like to join a random guild or party. It might be a game, but it looks real. Those were worries for later. The game was still in his early stages. There was no need for a guild nor a party. Aaron believed he could strong on his own till he gets into the dungeons for the first boss. Then he will need a party to defeat the boss level. First, it was time to get used to the game, learn how to use his weapons and skills. Being stronger will open doors for sure.
Walking down the plaza, seeing groups of people and lone wolfs preparing themselves for adventure. Some of those groups knew what to do. They were experienced in this genre and some of those were even in the beta. So they definitely knew where to go for their fresh start. Although some players asked to join their party, Arkize always refused. Getting stronger on his own was his motto right now. And so his adventure begun.
The adventure has begun in the city itself. Scouting thru the streets, checking where most of the stuff were. Stuff like shops for equipment, shops for food and potions and places to built new things like armor and weapons. The journey went on when he knew where to go when needed something specific. The streets lead him outside the gigantic city into the great plains. A wide open plane that reached so far as the eye could see. A clay path was followed after a brick stone path that came from the city. That path definitely lead the players towards the next towns. Arkize didn't have to be there, yet. His mission right now was to know how to fight. Not against other players, against mobs. The great plains were great for that. Many monsters, mostly boars, were found scattered around the area. The grass was his new path instead of following the clay one.
Arkize wasn't the only one testing his abilities on mobs, there were others as well. It sure was normal for the stage where this game was in. It didn't take long to find a monster, a Boar. Despite its low level, the frenzy Boar appeared to be a medium-sized monster with blue fur, glowing red eyes, a flat snout and sharp tusks protruding from either side of its mouth. It was a passive monster and had to be provoked before it engaged the player in combat. Arkize took his sword from of his back with his dominant right hand. The feeling of having a sword in his hand was new. Moving it back and forth, getting used to the weight and to potential to kill a mob. The young man then moved forward and hit the monster with his blade. The hit triggered the beast to defend himself and locked on to Arkize as his main target. The pig then dashed towards the player trying to hit him with his head. Arkize dodges the incoming Boar with just stepping to his right side. Which brought him in an excellent position to strike again, a direct hit. The damage he dealt wasn't enough to kill the beast with two strikes. Aaron took agility as the main stat instead of strength. Speed would give him more freedom than power. Living by a motto, "if they can't hit you, then it doesn't matter how strong they are". The Boar just needed one more hit to be finished. Arkize changed stance and stood ready as he saw that the medium-sized monster prepared himself again to attack. One dodge and one more hit will end this little fight between man and monster. And so it went. The same move from both characters ended in the same result.
This little experimental fight was over. The fight gave information about some of his abilities and talents. Not all of them were used in this small fight. This warrior had to move on and fight more mobs to learn his abilities. That was his plan before ringing bells distracted him to move on. What was going on? He didn't know. A blue light surrounded him when he looked away from the bells and moved forwards. Arkize ended back at the plaza when he finished his step. The light around him teleported him back to the place where he began his journey in SAO. Weird noise filled the area followed by the air turning red cover by warning signs. Players all over the place were confused what was happening, same for Arkize. A mystical creature came out the red sky and started to talk with the following words.
"Attention, players. Welcome to my world."
"My name is Kayaba Akihiko. As of this moment, I am the sole person who can control this world.
I'm sure you've already noticed, that the logout button is missing from the main menu. But this is not a defect in the gameā¦I repeat..this is not a defect in the game. It is a feature of Sword Art Online."
Aaron hadn't noticed yet and checked it out himself. He took out the main menu to try it. It was true and confused him even more.
"You cannot log out of SAO yourselves. And no one on the outside can shut down or remove the NerveGear. Should this be attempted the transmitter inside the NerveGear will emit a powerful microwave, destroying your brain and thus ending your life.
Unfortunately, several players' friends and families have ignored this warning and have attempted to remove the NerveGear. As a result, two hundred and thirteen players are gone forever, from both Aincrad and the real world."
Players facial expressions changed from confusion into fear. Scared that people in their surroundings would remove the helmet to get them out of the game.
"As you can see, news organizations across the world, are reporting all of this, including the deaths. Thus, you can assume that the danger, of a NerveGear being removed is no minimal. I hope you will relax and attempt to clear the game. But I want you to remember this clearly. There is no longer any method to revive someone within the game. If your HP drops to zero, your avatar will be forever lost. and simultaneously the NerveGear will destroy your brain. There is only one means of escape. To complete the game. You are presently on the lowest floor of Aincrad, Floor 1. If you make your way through the dungeon and defeat the Floor Boss, you may advance to the next level. Defeat the boss on Floor 100, and you will clear the game.
Finally, I've added a present from to your item storage. Please see for yourself."
Everyone reached to his item list when the man finished his words. It was a small mirror, but for what? Arkize had one to and looked at it and saw his game character how he had made it. Everybody than began lighting up. Players around Aaron changed, only their face's. The young man looked in the mirror once more and saw that his game character changed as well. It changed to his real face from the real world.
"Right now, you're probably wondering, "why". Why would Kayaba Akihiko, developer of Sword Art Online and the NerveGear, do all this? My goal has already been achieved. I created Sword Art Online for one reason. To create this world and intervene in it."
"And now, it is complete. This ends the tutorial for the official Sword Art Online Launch. Good luck players." He then fades away.
People started to panic once the words penetrated their minds. Aaron kept his cool and started to think, planning his following moves. Other players started to run out the plaza, some in groups others alone. What were the pros of being alone or in a group? Being alone would make you more experienced and stronger than when in a group. A group can delay ur growth as they most likely want everyone to grow in the same phase. Being alone could make u a target for a group that wants to take advantage of lone wolfs. Being in a group is more protective and u shouldn't worry much about planning the group's trip as there is a leader.
Arkize decided to go on his own for now. Getting stronger was the priority and being his own boss was a better formula to succeed. Others could hold him back in the beginning. Trust was important since the game changed drastically. People should earn it by proving it that they are worthy, by their actions or reputation.
"This isn't a game anymore, this is life."
Those were the last words he thought about when moving out of the plaza.
