"I will not allow anyone to die." | |

Kyle lurked around the main quest board that hung on the giant tan-colored brick clock tower in the center of the plaza in the Town of Beginnings. He sighed as memories of his first day in Sword Art Online returned to him. The sky turned red and thousands of hexagons that read "SYSTEM ANNOUNCEMENT" popped across the sky. That day, not a single speck of the orange evening sky peeked through Akihiko Kayaba's impenetrable barrier. Thick liquid similar to blood poured down from the sky, forming into the avatar of the game master, which turned out to be Kayaba himself. His bone-chilling revelation about how if you died in the game, you died in real life paralyzed he and his three friends with fear. Kyle closed his eyes and placed his left hand against the clock tower. If it wasn't for them, I'd be dead, he thought. Jesus, I know I've asked you this many times before, but tell them again for me that I'm living for them. I'm getting out of here and the only way I'm dying is if it's to save another.
Kyle pushed himself up from the clock tower, indicating the end of his prayer and he looked up at the sky. Five months and we haven't heard a word from Kayaba since that day. I wonder where he is. Kyle directed his attention to the quest board and noticed that there were more postings than normal. He grinned. Now that the front lines have finally found the boss room, it's only a matter of time until floor two opens up. That means that the level one players like me that have been too scared to leave the Town of Beginnings will finally get some manageable quests that'll help us get stronger. Kyle rummaged through stacks of flyers pinned to the mahogany board, intrigued by the vast selection. Hmm, boar hunting, easy but boring. Protect a caravan through the Black Forest, that might be a bit too difficult to do solo. Deal with Kobold Patrolmen by the dungeon entrance, no, that'll get me killed faster than anything. Kyle's shoulders drooped and he sighed dejectedly. Great, I'm starting to act like that lazy guy off of Fairy Tail. Perhaps I should just take the boar quest like usual and call it a day.
Before he had reached out to grab the flyer and put it in his inventory, a rather tall man donned in blue dyed leather armor darted into the plaza. He looked strong, carrying equipment that one wouldn't find on a level one player, most notably a long, teal polearm, its blade a silver metallic color. Kyle had seen that metal only a handful of times. It was made out of calcum ore and it was the highest quality weapon one could attain normally on floor one. The man had a pale complexion and black hair that was longer in the front than in the back. His bangs covered his eyes. He cupped his mouth with his right hand and shouted, "Hey everyone, is anyone looking for an interesting type of quest? I need an extra hand or two and I'll split the reward evenly with you."
