As soon as character creation was complete and Shiba had quickly tapped the virtual keys for the name "Caedes", a magnificent world suddenly sprang to life in front of him. He looked down at his hands and feet, lifting each of them as if he couldn't believe that they were actually his limbs. The whole concept was one lost on him, as much as he loved video games the whole 'virtual reality' sub market was a genre he never touched; which made this world around him seem so much more exciting. He wasn't sitting in front of a television with controller in hand: His body reacted and moved just as it would in real life! He couldn't help but wear a huge grin as he impatiently looked around the starting city, rather; "The Town of Beginnings" as it were called.
It was clear as day that the bustling bodies that moved around him were also players for the most part, though some of the NPC's could easily have passed as some from what he had noticed first glance. The diversity between everyone was astounding to Shiba, who had been more accustomed to the type of MMOs where everyone looked the same with a few minute different details to their avatar. His chest swelled up slightly with pride, it was a good sign that no one would look like him! Fighting the urge to burst into a larger smile than he already had on his face, he decided that visiting the shops and checking out the different areas of the city would be a smart first step. He didn't want to miss any important quests, especially beginner ones, and the promise of taverns was a compelling lead to pursue.
Suddenly there was a pause in everything around him before the startling realization hit him that he was then standing back at the beginning of the city, along with what looked like every other possible player that could've been running around like him. At first he was confused, then curious as the players around him begin to chatter:
".. What's going on?" A small girl asked as she tugged on her friends sleeve.
"Yo did we just get mass TP'd?" The veteran gamer didn't even have a clue what was going on either.
Eavesdropping on the conversations around him obviously wasn't giving him any answers, so he did the next thing he thought of.. he waited. He simply stood there with his arms crossed, absentmindedly flicking the scabbard on his side every few moments to kill the boredom. Before too long a voice erupted from what felt like the sky and Caedes tilted his head upwards, what he saw there normally would've floored him in real life. A giant robed man, insurmountable in size, was floating in the sky as if it wasn't any big deal. Instead of screaming or stuttering in awe, he simply tilted his head to the side with a curious look.
"That's.. certainly a twist." He thought to himself as he cleared his throat and looked around him at the other players, who were clearly shaken as the robed man made the announcement of their new, living nightmare. The idea that they would die in real life if they died in the game? He smiled at first, he obviously didn't believe a word that was said by the faceless giant until the next thing happened. Within a moment, everyone's appearance was changed in what could only be described as shattering entirely; revealing a 'new' appearance: Their true appearance. He could already feel the eyes of players on him as his appearance had changed so drastically. His height, now towering over most, was a unique thing even where he lived. Even more prominent was how his skin made the jump from average to exotic, giving a foreigner vibe to him in a crowd of mostly Japanese people around him. Luckily everyone had more important things on their mind than how people looked around them. They were trying to figure out what he meant by death in the real world. Within a few short moments, most of them already wanted to log out. Sadly, that wasn't an option for anyone anymore as he confirmed himself.
It didn't take a genius to figure out that everyone around him, including himself, were now appearing just as they would in the real world with the exception of the weapons and clothing. Caedes scratched his head and made a sour expression as he kicked at the ground with his right foot. "I guess if he wasn't lying about this appearance thing, there's a good chance he might not be lying about the dying thing.." The acceptance came a lot quicker for him than it did for the players immediately surrounding him, each one was coping in their own way with what was happening so suddenly.
After spending what felt like an eternity trying to break through the crowd of players he was surrounded by, Caedes headed for the nearest tavern that he could remember the location of on his previous city expedition. Escaping the hysteria so he could clear his thoughts was the first part of his game plan, the rest would follow.. he hoped. As much as he tried to act calm about the situation, he was still afraid of death. The idea that one mistake in a game would cause death in real life was absolutely.. insane. It was so common for a player to miscalculate, to over think things or underestimate their enemies. The amount of times he had taken on things levels higher than him just to die in seconds on other games was countless, he knew he'd have to approach this in its own different way than other MMOs. That being said, he couldn't wait to get out of the city and into the meat of the 'game'.
Shiba came to this fantasy world for a reason after all, not to play damsel in distress. He wanted a new life, was the prospect of being stuck in the game such a bad thing for someone like him? He couldn't help but find his own silver lining in it, as twisted as it seemed. Almost as soon as he had sat down in the tavern he shot back up with new found courage. "Then I'll just enjoy it while it lasts!" He accidentally shouted out loud, quickly falling back to his seat, hoping that the chaos around him drowned out any chance of someone overhearing the embarrassing statement. He kicked his feet up under the table and leaned back without ordering a single thing. He was, after all, a brand new player without money to spend on frivolous things yet.

((This is an open thread (obviously), but I'll move on with it if there doesn't seem to be any interest so that I can move on from this starter thread. That being said, anyone is welcome and I won't simply end it/cut it off on anyone if they join~))
