[Appearance (You may use method 1 or 2, or use them both - this is the ingame character)]
Method 1:
Appearance: Takao has a rather atypical appearance for a native of Japan. His partial Canadian heritage granted him skin that maintains a slight natural tan, and only proves to darken to a healthy tone from trace amounts of exposure to the sun. His hair is brown and messily styled, which may be alluding to his carefree personality. The only noticeable imperfections on his face would be the freckles dotting his cheeks and nose, which aid in giving him an almost innocent aura alongside his generally friendly demeanor and smiling face. He carries himself with an air of confidence, which presents the impression that he's comfortable with himself in favour of the notion that he thinks himself to be better than others. Takao typically dresses himself in light armour, and always wears his sword on his back behind his right shoulder.

[Sword Art (if you would like an image for this, it is 100x100)]
Effect: «Alber's Cross», Two fast and heavier-than-average hitting slashes against a single opponent. (2 hits: 125%, 125%)
Trigger: The user adopts a position reminiscent of the Alber guard, achieved by lowering the point with the hands. The user spreads their legs to about shoulder width and places their right foot forward. Despite the guard's typical application of being used with two handed swords, one handed blade users adapt to the difference and instead hold the blade out and pointed toward the ground. This stance is also sometimes referred to as the "Fool's Guard", due to how it purposefully exposes the user's upper body to lure their opponent into attacking.
Description: After assuming the correct stance, the user's blade begins to glow pale red and hum a low tone. On the first of two swings, the user slashes from the ground upward into their target, and then twists their wrist and reverses their momentum to bring their sword back down unto the head of their target.
[Personality]
A lot of words could be used to sum up Takao's personality. Confident, observant, fun-loving, analytical, athletic, curious, gregarious. The list could span on infinitely. At his core, he is a genuinely good person. He accepts his flaws and shortcomings and works to overcome them rather than ignoring them or pushing them aside, and does his best to look out for the well being of others whenever he can. He is best defined as an ambivert, although he finds himself with the most energy when in the presence of other people. His kind and pleasant personality, if not a bit too exuberant at times, makes it easy for him to make friends and integrate himself into social groups. Takao's optimism also helps him to try and see the best in everybody. The concept of being a "lone wolf" is quite foreign to him, despite the fact that he deeply values his independence.
He's also confident, and perhaps exceedingly so. Takao's confidence stems from his general positivity and optimistic outlook on life, and not specifically from self-belief or faith in his own ability to succeed. He doesn't place a great deal of emphasis on the outcome of an activity, nor does he dwell on consequences in a negative light. He is entirely capable of reflecting on failures to learn from, and sees his failures to be an opportunity to succeed rather than a lack of success. His self confidence allows him to focus on and perform a certain task without worrying about failure or the disapproval of others, which allows him to find more enjoyment in his activities. Related to his love for being sociable is a knack for leadership, especially in stressful situations. Takao's confidence and optimism do wonders to keeping him calm in disadvantageous situations, which is an incredible advantage to have. Whether or not his decisions are the best to make are always an afterthought, for Takao prefers to follow his gut instinct instead of second guessing himself at every turn. A sub-trait of Takao's curiousity that stems from a mixture of his confidence and curiousity is his love of thrills. Fighting in Sword Art Online is the most exaggerated that this particular flaw of his gets, due to the superhuman nature of a player's abilities and the incredible odds that one would never face offline. His love of thrills doesn't extend particularly far outside of the game because Takao is able to maintain a wall between what he perceives as reality and fantasy, though to a lesser extent he does enjoy trying new things.
[Biography]
Takao was the second child of his parents. He was born into a family of three that consisted of his older sister and parents, and would later become an older brother to his younger sister. His father was born in Canada and moved to America in order to attend a college in Minnesota for Mechanical Engineering. Around the same time, Takao's mother began to take acting classes in Osaka, Japan. Years later, his father received a temporary job at a university in the same city as Takao's mother, who had just started her acting career as a D-list actress. They met by chance at a bar and hit it off almost immediately. Takao's mother acted as a translator of sorts for his father, who was very uneducated on the native language. They began dating shortly after meeting. When his father's temporary job had managed to land him a more permanent position a few months later, the couple began living together. A year later and Takao's sister Izumo was born, and another year would pass before they were married. Takao was born four years after his sister, and around five years before his younger sister Chisaki.
Takao enjoyed a very normal life growing up. His parents were wealthy enough to support their moderately sized family. He was disciplined when necessary, although it was rarely ever needed. He wasn't a bad kid and seldom found himself in trouble on his own accord. Spending his childhood in the city of Osaka in the prefecture of the same name meant that he was exposed to a lot of different cultures; tourism being the main source of such. He picked up English as his second language almost naturally from a young age due to being exposed to foreigners and tourists, in addition to one of his parents speaking the language natively. At some point Takao had nearly lost his Japanese accent when speaking English, as a result of meeting and speaking to international friends.
Despite not being a very active gamer and only enjoying them casually, Takao was intrigued by the announcement of the NerveGear. He'd already been working at the time, so he and a friend bought the hardware on the day of its release, and with it the game entitled "Sword Art Online". The two went home and promised to meet up in game when the servers were opened. They were both in for quite a surprise.
