"There is no learning when avoiding the darkness ahead."
Harmony Lv1 Agamemnon Lv3 Kolkein Lv4 | Ryuuichi woke to a gentle but firm nudging on his right shoulder. Still half asleep, he waved his hand in the general direction, groping around in attempts to turn off whatever was disturbing his peace. His hands met up with a face, and he immediately jerked away startled. Glancing up, he found himself staring at the crouched figure of Agamemnon, who had an amused expression on his face. "Didn't expect to see you sleeping out here. It's cold." He said. Ryuuichi propped himself up. "You can say that again. At least you knew where to find me." "I guess so." Agamemnon said. "You know, if you wanted to, I have space at my place for another person. You can stay there until you have enough to rent for yourself." Ryuuichi nodded his thanks. Truthfully, he wished that the offer had been given the night before, but he didn't expect Agamemnon to be attentive enough to realize he had nowhere to stay. It was common sense. Someone who could not afford even a drink had no chance of being able to buy up a room for the night. Most people miss simple details like these, in the life they lead. "Harmony, I want you to meet Kolkien." Agamemnon continued. "Kolkein, Harmony." Ryuuichi clasped hands with the ranger. He could tell that Kolkein, too, was skeptical about letting a newcomer join on a more advanced mission, but nonetheless he kept to himself. The man was quite tall, perhaps in his thirties. Certainly older than Agamemnon and Ryuuichi. He had a grizzled beard and short, black hair. Judging by the gear he and Agamemnon had, they were both at least two or three levels higher than Ryuuichi. Earnestly, Ryuuichi rubbed his hands together. "So, you guys are on a quest, huh?" He inquired. "We better get you the same one if you plan on tagging along," Kolkein replied. "But your level isn't ready for it. Luckily, the plains happens to be on the way there, so we'll boost you a bit before we get onto the main quest." Ryuuichi nodded. It was reasonable. Ever since permadeath was introduced, taking risks in the game became a huge threat. Getting a few levels and perhaps some gear was a good way to start, if he planned to fend for himself once they reached the harder levels. The group, reaching a consensus, head out for the Great Plains. They stopped by a market along the way to purchase some food. Wasting no time, they brought it along the way, eating as they went. Ryuuichi was surprised at how fast the town has managed to grow. With time, it could likely become a player sustaining safe zone, where hunters brought in game, and the civilians paid for them. Not a bad occupation to consider in the future. Ryuuichi thought. The materials dropped in the dungeons can probably sell with hefty prices in the Town of Beginnings, due to the large population that would forever reside there. To those willing to take the risk, the drops could certainly be well worth the price. It took a considerable amount of time before they had reached the plains. It was a peaceful area, but the zone, once filled to the brim with new players, was much less active. It appeared that many players, in fear for their lives, hadn't even bothered fighting the basic mobs in the game. Ryuuichi harbored feelings of pity and disgust as he scanned the semi-populated zone. Thinking that there were a hundred floors to complete, and so many players already given up before the game even begun-- cowardice most certainly loomed over the SAO playerbase. Agamemnon set his large axe down on the dirt and leaned his weight on the hilt, surveying the fighting. Though not a word has been spoken, the three of them took the queue and settled down for a break before they dived head first into battle. Ryuuichi took the moment and studied the mobs and players who were already clashing below. The ways they maneuvered, the skills they used-- data was a key factor in gaining an upper hand in a game like this. Kolkein, on the other hand, was considerably less interested in the display, and instead tended to his bowstrings and checking if his gear was all prepared. A gust of wind brushed past the three, and Ryuuichi inhaled appreciatively. The world itself was quite beautiful. He never paid much attention to his surroundings. In the real world, he knew little past the walls of his room. True, Sword Art Online was merely a computer generated world that had heavy focus on aesthetics and art, but Ryuuichi recalled reading countless tales and fantasies picturing a scenery as beautiful as this one. Agamemnon eventually swung his weapon over his shoulder, and addressed his companions. "Shall we?" |
