serenity is not stillness.

Valerie, yet another player imprisoned in the death game and yet another player who had wasted all their time so far just doing nothing useful but be scared of what they were forced to do. It was funny to the French girl, her own failure was rather enjoyable now that she looked back at it. Luckily though she would no longer cower in the town of beginnings, it was time to go out there and destroy the lives of virtual monsters.
Was she looking forward to it? No, no, no, and no. She was forced to overcome her fear of death, forced to kill something of which she doesn’t even know if it will feel the process, forced to trust someone that she had just recently met, and last but definitely not least she was also forced to risk her life for money to keep living. There didn’t seem to be anyway to dance around it, she would have to go out no matter what, otherwise she’d be sleeping on the streets for the rest of her time. If that would be the case, Valerie would probably lose her sanity and end up doing things that she would have never even thought about, and that was of course not what she wanted to do.
It’s so scary.
Now that the time of having to go out came closer, she was starting to feel very nervous. Her legs were shaking and felt incredibly heavy, she was starting to breathe at a quicker pace, and her hands were also shaking far too much. She was really panicked. To this day, Valerie had never just stared out of the gate of the safe zone, right into the place where some people had already lost their lives because they made the idiotic choice of going out alone. Today she’d probably stand on a player’s place of death several times, and that was not the best thought you could have. The grass field was completely empty and looked abnormally peaceful for a place where boars, wolves, and other creatures that want you dead would spawn. Thinking about everything made her so scared all of a sudden.
She had to calm down. To do so she just started thinking about the good side of the story. About how she was going to have enough money if she did this, about how she’d overcome her fear if she did this and about how she wouldn’t be in danger thanks to Fallen, which she now knew as Shizuo. The latter really calmed her down, because having someone with her, who had promised her she wouldn’t die, definitely made her feel better.
Valerie luckily managed to calm herself down fairly quickly while they were still following the straight path that lead out of the city. She hoped that her companion hadn’t noticed her little panic moment, but he probably would have, considering they were walking close to each other.
As they came closer to the gate, Valerie constantly kept trying to keep herself in control, which she didn’t completely succeed in. She had gotten control over her breathing fairly quickly, but she was still shaking slightly, which could be noticed if one would play close attention to her hands. Her unexpected panic attack made her feel weaker again, and was messing with her mind.
Valerie didn’t like to cause drama, which is why she decided to just try and act like there was nothing wrong. She really didn’t want to waste her own and Shizuo’s time anymore, so she would just have to get her stuff together and go out there. Though she had really been against following everything that her companion would say, right now she didn’t have any problem with it anymore as she probably wasn’t able to make any decisions in the heat of the battle anyway.
After what seemed to years of walking, Valerie finally arrived at the gate that lead out of the city. Knowing that just standing here would make her more nervous than she already was, Valerie just took a deep breath and opened her menu to equip her spear. She quickly clicked through the menu, accidentally miss clicking from time to time. Soon after opening the menu though, her spear appeared in her left hand. Holding the weapon made her feel safer, but also made her realize that she was going to be stabbing such a sharp thing into the monsters outside. Valerie was afraid that they might feel the pain, unlike the players. She didn’t know how in the world they would be able to, but it still concerned her. It’d probably sound weird to other people that she was concerned about virtual monsters.
There she stood, in front of the gate that would be the hardest thing to pass through. Never had she brought herself into a dangerous situation on purpose, so this was really weird. Thinking about it wouldn’t help her though, so she tried to distract her by simply talking to Shizuo.
“So.. Are you.. ready?” She asked, not really sure why in the world she’d have to even ask him.
@ Shizuo
