There is two different types of combat in SAO-RPG. There is social combat and event combat. When in social combat (posting with others in non-event threads) you do not need to equate stats. You dont have to worry about rolling and figuring out damages and health, just play fair. No God-Moding. If your level 5 with 10 attack and 6 defense you should have no trouble dealing with a level 4 enemy. You would struggle tremendously with a level 10 enemy though. If PVP scenarios arise, you may decide among yourself the outcome while participating in the thread, or you could ask for a moderator to do your stat rolls to have a duel that would incorporate all stats.
When participating in an event, you will determine your actions. The moderators will advise on the outcomes of thus actions though. You would state all comments in the form of an attempt. When attacking a boss you would say something like the example following:
Player: "Kyo readies in an offencieve stance, holding his sword to his side to trigger his sword art skill "Violet Gale" and after a brief pause he lunges forward; sword glowing a bright florescent purple. After darting forward he lands his jump at the base of 'insert boss name here' before tacking two swift swings at its leg, after attempting to hit he would then try dodging back into his allies cover."
the admin would then have reply as such:
Admin: "Kyo succeeds in striking 'insert boss name here' for two swings, dealing 11 and 7 damage for a total of 18. In attempt to dodge away Kyo was struck by the monsters tail; throwing his back into his allies; Kyo takes 4 damage and suffers a temporary acrobatics debuff of -1 for his injuries. He also hits Bob with Kyo when tossing him, dealing 1 damage to Bob."
These are of course brief and a bit random as examples, but they are just to show you dont have entire control of what happens in events so the wordings of "attempt" or "would then" make more sense to use as we may cut you off in the middle of your post and change things a bit! Bosses and a force to be trifled with!
This guide will be updated in the future, just trying to lay down basics before opening up.
