As the message from Kayaba Akihiko played, Rey Cortez was completely silent. Everything went silent. There were already issues among the players. An aura of fear and panic settled throughout the town. As the speech began to wind down, there were murmurs from all the players around him. Some seemed to get the hell out of dodge, quite level-headed about the whole thing, then other dropped dead on the spot.
Rey, or as he would now be known, Grind looked at the people around him, and he didn't quite feel comfortable. As the death count rolled up, people began to scream in fear of their lives. There were groups, and there were loners. His Detection talent was already kicking in, everything he noticed was great. The polearm user decided to ditch the crowd. These people wouldn't be able to help him, now he had to protect his life, first and foremost. As he finally made it to the alleyways, the silence allowed his mind the clarity of thought for once. Even if he trapped in this death game, his mind would slowly relax and could finally appreciate the details of the world around him and how well connected his body was to this game.
'This might as well be real life.' Heart pounding to every word. Stepping to the walls and touching the stone constructions, their cool, smooth yet toughness was identical to the real thing in his mind. As a game, with no access to the real world, nor the pool of knowledge from everyone participating, his first thought would be to create a guide that he could reference, not only for now, but if he were to make it out of this ordeal alive.
Grind wasn't even sure if the speech was an absolute truth, but he considered it how he viewed religion. Better safe than sorry. 'I guess I'll try looking an NPC merchant, maybe they could help me out." He roamed the streets which had newb-friendly signs. He could recall the layout of the town, from the beta, but that was all he had managed to check. The shopkeeps were in their same positions, but now they had much smoother dialogue. It was worth a shot. "Hello, I'm new here and I was hoping to get paper and pencil.
The shopkeeper stated there was no such thing available at her location. Grind clicked his tongue in an audible display of dissatisfaction, and bid farewell to the merchant as if it were a human. As he strolled away down the alleys, occasionally seeing herds of people forming groups. The numbers had died down severely, and it had seemed that most went out to the fields immediately to level up. Sure, it was a game, but this was also it's own existence. Everyone was playing by preset rules from past experiences, but Grind wasn't like that. He would take his time to explore the world properly, and great a firm foundation and knowledge of this world before making steps towards clearing all the floors.
