Welcome to our third installment of the SAO-RPG handbook. This is the one about characters, stats, and experience!
Before making a character, look for the pinned thread at the top of the character creation page. It already has a template that will make it nice and easy to post your thread, now time to further explain what it includes and what they mean!
There are two types of "stats" in SAO-RPG. You have your Attributes and Talents. Your attributes are raw numbers that are used to calculate combat related rolls. You will never need to calculate these rolls yourself, but you can see more about combat in the next guide. Talents are skills that pertain to more specific things, such as your ability to use swords or your ability to hide from enemies. The four attributes of SAO-RPG is Strength, Endurance, Agility, and Dexterity. They each serve multiple purposes and you will start with 10 points to allocate between them with a minimum starting start of 1 and maximum of 5. Every time you levelup you will gain an attribute point. These attribute points will be spent in the requests page to increase your attribute.
The stats each mean different things for combat, they apply as follows:
Strength, of course is your damage stat. This will determine how much damage you do, in combination with your gear equipped. In some scenarios it will also be a requirement to have high strength to wield heavier weapons such as large two handed swords, longswords, and axes.
Endurance is your toughness. This will determine how much damage you can take. Your heath will directly be effected by endurance, some shields and armors will also require high endurance.
Agility is your speed stat. It is used to determine who attacks first, it also will effect how often you dodge attacks and take no damage, or offer a chance to dodge the direct damage of the attack leaving only minor hits. This could be required to equip fast equipment such as daggers and curved swords
Dexterity is your focus stat. Dexterity is required in many things you to. To be precise requires this as it is your accuracy. Often agility and dexterity serve as opposites. This is commonly a required stat for pierce weapons such as polearms and rapiers.
There are several other numbers that are a culmination of these attributes to help determine numbers for combat. You will be able to see an "ATK" and "DEF" stat, or attack and defense. These will be determined by your attributes, talents, and gear. They give a basic show of what your prepared for. Level doesn't determine your actual damage, nor does strength. Sometimes the gear will make a big difference in how much damage you would do. Same applies to defense.
You will also have a health stat and an experience stat. The health stat only applies to your current thread. If depleted to zero at any time your character will become deceased and no longer be playable so be careful where you decide to adventure. Your experience is a progress toward your next level up. Once you hit maximum experience for that level, you will levelup and gain an attribute point. You gain experience at the end of a thread after it is reviewed by an administrator. This experience is determined by the quantity and quality of the posts.
Talents are abilities that determine specific things. Talents are required to utilize weapons of specific types as well as other things such as cooking and tailoring. You start with 3 Talent points and gain another one every three level ups. Once you have a Talent you do not need to spend points to upgrade previous talents, you will automatically gain experience in utilizing it.
