Ok guys, first off I’d like to give a loud and energetic welcome to all of the new faces and attention that we have received over the past week…it seems that the new player application board has been flooded lately with template requests and approvals, and I have been keeping myself busy walking through and reading each one. This is definitely a good sign of things to come for the board as a whole and I for one am completely excited to see some of the new writers and new ideas that this fresh blood will bring to the table.
However, the task falls to our GMs and veterans to attempt to help these folks along in the first few days of their posting in an effort to maintain the overall way of doing business that we try to encourage around here and it is my hope that we can get everyone on the same page quickly so we can get to enjoy increasingly complex and fresh RP that this step-up in membership will no doubt bring. So far, I am happy to say that everything looks good from the moderator chair however I would like to expand on some questions I have received and things that I have seen so far in recent posts to hopefully clarify how things have been (and need to be done) in terms of RP and board appearance:
1. Tags: There are several ways to tag a new thread, however the bulk of player use has been [OPEN] [CLOSED] [PRIVATE]. There are derivatives of these three tags in use to select specific players in either open or private threads…more examples: [OPEN, Kyo] or [OPEN 2]. Please note that these specific tags are used primarily as OOC markers to help steer people to your threads and for general organization of the board and are no way linked to the RP content or any sort of other restrictions. In a way, the more tags we use…the more complicated and potentially confusing the organization will be. Also, Event tags [EVENT] are exclusive to GM’s and should not be used by players. Be advised that any RP-based or non-justified tag will be quickly corrected by the moderating team for the sake of cleanliness.
2. Player Visibility: This is something that has been tossed around for some time and led to an eventual poll by the existing player base several weeks ago. Currently, no player at any time is able to find or locate another’s level or stats in any way without actually asking the player what those stats are (and most players tend to keep those hidden since they are a source of finding weaknesses)…This is even true when you party up with a group. Outside of party, Player names are also kept hidden in game unless a person introduces him/herself. Within the party screen however, you are able to see nearby stealth’ed party members (albeit in a faded shimmering form), their name, and their associate HP bar and applied status effects. (This is in keeping with SAO canon)
3. Quest Rewards: This has been known for a while but I think this merits repeating just for the sake of the dissemination of information…Quest drops and quest rewards are ultimately decided by dice in the quest review board once the thread is closed and submitted for review. While you can say “Relsialle swipes to look through the drops she received after turning in the quest” or “Relsialle grinned at seeing the rare drop in her inventory” the quest reviewer is in no way obligated to actually reward any requested drop. While you can direct your questing efforts to encounter monsters that have a known drop of an item you would like, there is no way of planning or RPing around getting said drop until the dice are thrown.
I certainly hopes clarify several things in relation to the recent new player surge and as always, keep writing and being the awesome creative people that you are…
Thanks,
-Ari
