Flavor Items and Clothing
What to do about buying roleplaying items for use and obtaining them?
Hey guys! Time to help answer a few questions that I’ve received as of late in an effort to help clarify a few more concepts in player-based threads…All in all, I’m certain you have asked yourself why there are so few items available for drops and so little items available in the shops. This is a simple answer, the items available for purchase with Col are only the items that give some benefit with in reins of our event-system. Everything else, be it pens/paper/ropes/cups are considered to be flavor-items. Flavor items only exist for one reason, to help flavor role-play and make it a measure more realistic. Now the sheer number of objects that are available would simply overwhelm our board thus far so we give the players the ability to use and obtain these objects on their own, WITHIN REASON…While a player could be assumed to have bought a simple pen/paper before a thread started and have it in their inventory along with a simple hemp rope…that diamond necklace or that ebony cane with a gold inlay is definitely not possible in terms of quality.
Flavor items for an added measure are dependent on the floor you are on as well…while a simple ink pen may be available on the first floor, that pen can gradually become more ornate as players rise to upper floors and have greater amounts of money at their disposal. Food is much the same way, with more luxurious items available at upper floors of the game.
Payment for simple flavor items is not required (due to not being controlled by the GMs) due to the fact that they confer not statistic bonuses or effects. However some players, myself included, do still pay for these items out of a sense of fairness. With the most common case being meals obtained while in roleplay...this is normally annotated in threads by use of a simple tag in a post to the effect of:
(-10 Col – Meal)
And then the GMs will deduct that amount from your total when a thread is reviewed. The cost is simply whatever you think is fair/realistic and again, is WITHIN REASON. Usually such flavor items will be under 10 col, if you want to pay for them.
Clothing falls under this umbrella as well, with simple no-stat outfits possibly obtained by the players through use of a NPC tailor or just assumed to be in their inventory. So simply put, if you want that nice black cotton yukata, hakama, or a set of pajamas...you are fine to pull it out of hammer-space…AS LONG AS YOU DON’T GO OVERBOARD in terms of quality and style. This will open up several possibilities in which you can describe your clothing in setting posts, as well as having a different outfit for social-rp other than the obligatory beginner’s armor. But remember that this RP-clothing confers no stats, no special abilities, or ANYTHING in terms of combat…So I would change into your armor if things start to get heated in terms of danger…
Be advised that if these two things (Flavor clothing and flavor items) become abused, the GMs can step in and be mean…and we don’t want to do that…so please use your best judgement when using these items…
