"There is no learning when avoiding the darkness ahead."
Harmony Lv1 | Ryuuichi sat down on one of the chipped wooden stools that lined the table. Behind it, a mid-aged bartender was attending to the customers to his left. The information earlier that morning has been a lot to digest. Fear has already made its way throughout the player base of Sword Art Online, and the quiet in the tavern, which was usually raging with shouting and laughter, was enough to show for it. Ryuuichi reckoned that some of the players were going to drink themselves senseless, never stepping foot back out of the safe zones again. Who could blame them? Dying in the game will end their lives... forever. It can only be expected that even the smallest of the wild boars casted the reason out of the people. They were weak, and the weak do not survive in harsh world like their new prison cell. "Would you like to order something?" Ryuuichi looked up to the bartender, who glanced curiously from the other end of the table. He probably was serving more customers just this day than he ever had in his life without a slightest idea why. Nor did he mind. The NPC would be rich at the end of the day. Ryuuichi dug into his pockets and scowled. It occurred to him that he didn't have any Cols to order anything. Money, which was so readily available in the real world, was the thing he lacked in the game. He sighed and raised his hands in defeat. "No can do, I got none." The bartender nodded, and started towards the next player when a fist hit the table loudly with a heavy thud. Ryuuichi turned to see a large man in full armor to his right. The bartender, startled, glanced at the newcomer as well. "Give him his--" the man turned towards him inquisitively. "Ale," Ryuuichi finished. "Give him his ale, and a beer for me." The man repeated. He tossed a couple coins on the table. "Keep the change." The bartender nodded and quickly poured the drinks for Ryuuichi and the other man. Ryuuichi grasped his mug gratefully, and the two of them walked to an empty table. "Rough night, huh?" The man chuckled, "It's been a while since something so bizarre has happened in my life." "Implying something happened before." "Something like that." The man said shortly, as if not wanting to talk about it. He examined at Ryuuichi. "Harmony. That's an interesting username. Ryuuichi read the other man's to be Agamemnon. He smiled back at the man. "Greek mythology, is it?" He inquired. Agamemnon nodded. "I read the play. A beautiful piece." Agamemnon looked upwards. "I thought the name it would be fit for a game like this. Pity things turned out this way." Ryuuichi shrugged. It didn't really bother him all too much-- just surprised. He would sooner or later be out clearing the floors with the players that braved into the combat zones. By the looks of Agamemnon's gear, he'd be there too. "Perhaps we can run some quests together?" Ryuuichi offered. "If you have room for me, that is." It wasn't a bad idea. Working with Agamemnon was a good way of boosting his experience, and Agamemnon could probably use a hand with whatever he was doing. Ryuuichi was a seasoned player in the popular MOBAs and real time strategies in Japan prior to Sword Art, so he didn't feel threatened by the slight level advantage the mobs would have had over him. Anything could be solved with proper execution. Agamemnon pondered over this. He was obviously concerned about the possibility of death, and nobody wanted the blood on their hands. Eventually, he decisively replied, "as long as you follow my lead." They talked for a while after that. Agamemnon partied with an archer before they split, where Agamemnon headed to the tavern for a drink. He offered to search for the same player, which Ryuuichi supported. Though temporary, having a team could speed up their leveling a lot, and Ryuuichi had a feeling that keeping up against the other players was going to become extremely challenging soon. Agamemnon finished the last of his beer in a giant swig, slamming the mug on the counter. He wiped his face and stood up. "Well, Harmony, it was a pleasure." Ryuuichi shook his hand, and he strode out of the room. Ryuuichi watched Agamemnon go before he resumed his drink in silence. |
