"I'm no hero. I can't save my own life, let alone another. I was never a "Sapphire Samurai." Just a ronin fighting for ideals I can only hope to aspire to."
Kaito Lv4 | [This thread is a continuation of another one here and suggest reading through that first before posting here. After this thread, the same players will be tagged in Part 3 and perhaps Part 4, depending on how far this goes.} Going out past the gates of the Town of Beginnings had in the past few months lost a bit of its splendor than a while before. The massive walls that guarded what was more accurately a city seemed hardly necessary against the great swath of dangerous… boars and wolves. It was hard to believe the ramparts and defenses were used against such wildlife but maybe there was something in the lore of the game to explain the importance of everything. But even still, the great white tiled corridor and the flanking towers that lead to the massive gate opening were now, well, normal. Kaito wondered if that was because the game trapping them here on only two levels was beginning to grate on his senses or if the magic of those initial days were gone due to Kayaba’s machinations. Regardless, he strode once more for an early day of fighting off mobs and looking for Col and crafting bits, he figured along the way with today’s events. He had a light breakfast, even though typical “fullness” didn’t really exist here in Aincrad anymore, just hunger. A couple of hard boiled eggs, a handful of bacon strips, a mug of milk and orange juice. Just enough to prepare him for today… and also a flask of something strong in case his nerves would get to him. That however, was kept in his inventory for now. He didn’t want anyone to see that just hanging on his belt straps, at least with who he was meeting with today. Because this time, as he walked past the small groups of players preparing for their own journeys, he wasn’t going alone. As his black eyes scanned the light crowd, a familiar sky blue haired girl was waving at him with arm length gloves calling out to him. It was… strange. Nice but strange to have someone happy to see him and wanting him to join their group. He had been so used to leaving on his own or slipping into a pick-up group in the heat of the moment that actually planning a trip felt… relieving. “Kaito! Kaito, over here!” Justitia called out, practically bouncing on her short-heeled boots. She had all the nervous energy of a little girl wanting to get into an amusement park as quickly as possible as her long hair draped around her, pale blue eyes smiling at him as he quickened his step. “Hey, sorry, did I keep you waiting long?” Kaito asked he wrung his hands and cracked his knuckles a little, glancing between familiar and new faces between all of them. “No, we’re still waiting for the rest of the, um, guards I guess?” She explained, trying to figure out the proper term for their team as she tapped a finger against her chin, glancing into the sky, “Icarus, Ebisu and myself are here, we’re just waiting on the rest of the group to appear.” The dark haired man glanced towards the rest of the group as four people he hadn’t seen a couple of days ago with them stood out. Two young boys, probably just beginning to reach their double digits, were playing “Slapsies” to past the time as the two blonde boys, the older a little darker in color, had their palms placed in front of them. The younger boy was trying to pull his hands out of the way of the older boys slaps but he just seemed to always be off or tricked with a flinch and given a penalty slap. Despite their age, both of them carried massive weapons on their backs, as if made for someone much strong than them, one carrying a large mallet, the other a comically sized greatsword. Perhaps they were playing big characters like Kabuto at one point? The other two were an older man and a teenage girl. The man had stark white hair and beard with a bit of a tan underneath that made it pop out even more, quietly humming to himself while glancing at the two kids and occasionally shaking his head with a gentle smile, as if thinking back to days long past. He was looking over his own weapon, a trident and polishing it up at the moment. Though Kaito did wonder if that was necessary as seemingly bringing it out of one’s inventory would do just the same. Perhaps just a force of habit? And as for the other girl in their group, she seemed content to sit down on the ground, knees clothed in black tights nearly at her chest with the Player’s Guide in her hands, the sleeves of her navy blue tunic almost to her palms as she flicked to another page. Dark pink eyes were slightly hidden from the glare of this morning’s sun off her large framed glasses, the ginger haired girl’s long hair loosely curling around her shoulders while absentmindedly playing with the strains. She glances up at his arrival and she bites her lower lip, glancing aside as her pale freckled cheeks turn a hint pinker. She seemed shy, to say the least. “So, who’s the rest of our group here? Are these the, uh, crafters you said we’d be escorting?” Kaito asked to Justitia with an arch of an eyebrow. She gave a nod as the blue haired girl replied, “Yep! I’ll introduce everyone when the rest of our guard team arrives!” The dark haired man glanced around the pavilion gate as he added, “And… when are you expecting them? And how many more are coming?” Justitia flicks the air with gloved fingers in front of her, poking a few note entries as she responded, “Well, I think we might have three other players helping us, if they didn’t forget about today that is. I mean, maybe the four of us can be okay but…” She seemed to flutter off her words as Kaito spoke the reality, “The bigger the numbers, the higher the aggro range, right? Luckily parties only can take 6 players and the aggro range doesn’t stack. So our numbers will still be enough to cover everyone easily.” He hoped his words would give some relief to the other player as she blinked at his reasoning, “Huh, you really know the mechanics of this game, don’t you?” Kaito shrugged as he opened his mouth for a second, about to admit that he had played the game for the Beta before deciding against it, “W-Well, we’ve had a few months stuck here, I had to learn some time.” He said with a crooked smile, glancing away for a moment. Justitia hummed curiously as she bent forward to look him over then nodded, “Well, let’s just wait an hour more and we’ll get started. Um, you wouldn’t happen to have the Mapping Talent, would you?” She asked as she poked her index fingers together, as it seemed rather rare yet helpful to have someone who could map out a quick way towards the dungeon, not to mention while IN said dungeon too. “Lucky for you, I do.” Kaito said as he tapped on his own menu, opening up his expanded map screen and letting her come around to check. “OOH! Great! Then I hereby declare you our official Navigator Kaito!” She said triumphantly before crossing her arms with a sense of authority and nodding exaggeratedly. Kaito chuckled at her overly flamboyant nature, somewhat reminded of his days with the Rangers as he leaned up against the brick wall, opening up a larger map of the floor, “Well then “Captain”, let me get our route set up and we’ll wait, what, an hour for the others to arrive?” He suggested as Justitia blinked and nodded, “Oh, r-right! That’s an excellent plan! Hopefully they’ll get here soon…” |
