Aura quickly rushed herself towards the Great Plains. If she was going to gather some good materials, according a myth she had heard, she had better get a move-on before she would miss the chance for items being mysteriously dropped for players. Of course, there was always the chance that the myth was indeed just that. A myth. Aura didn't want to bank on that chance though because any chance to get materials for crafting was a good chance. Aura walked in a speedy fashion through the Town of Beginnings, passing differing shops with a plethora of different uses. Many of the stores that Aura had passed, she recognized because she was trying to get a feel for what kinds of items people were buying frequently and what kinds of items people were making to cater to their comrade's needs. Aura never did an extreme amount of research on these things, but when she felt that she had some free time, she enjoyed gathering that information to put herself at an advantage. Aura also passed a number of libraries, which she spent a considerable amount of time in. She would always spend time there to try and see what kinds of items she would be making, and what kinds of methods for making items were the most efficient or methods that might have produced better results than average. Though, she found that someone couldn't make items that were better quality than anything else, but Aura wondered if it was possible to make an item even better despite what she had read. Aura put this thought off quickly though as she reached the Great Plains, ready to collect as many materials as she possibly could.      Aura surveyed the area and tried to spot any items that might've been 'mysteriously' lying on the ground as the rumor said. Of course, she didn't find any at first glance, but she quickly expanded her search to other places in the Great Plains. Aura quickly moved toward a pretty small group of 3 Boars, which were all lying on the ground together. Aura decided it would be better if she left the group alone because she didn't want to fight. She just wanted to collect her materials and be on her way, but she couldn't find any. Was it really just a myth? Aura seemed genuinely saddened that she couldn't find anything her first time around. Aura looked towards the other areas of the vast plains. It was possible that the myth could be taking place somewhere else and Aura was just looking in the wrong place. Yeah. Aura thought that that could only be the case. The myth couldn't be fake? Could it?

Kitferge's eyes flickered lazily from his perch up in one of the only few trees in the plains, blue irises wandering idly from one player to the next. There was a group of players who had a conflict about the story of the mysterious materials, and one of the girls stormed off, with red-gold curls and a thick Irish accent that seemed to fit her angry, loud voice and axe. Her fierce, fiery personality drew the blonde to her, and he watched her cut down boar after boar, powerful strokes injuring each beast. Ah, well. It was getting tiring, anyways, so he skimmed down from the broad, heavy branches, seeking out a next target. Catching a flash of blonde hair, he smiled mysteriously as the girl-he hoped it was a girl, anyways-moved around the tall grass. She looked far too eager to be merely killing boars, and judging by the way the female moved away from the monsters, he doubted that was the case. Easily sliding away from the boars nearby, he paused a couple of yards away from her. Frantic, saddened...must really care about her crafting, hmm? He paused. She seemed rather stoic, actually, for some reason. He had come out here to seek players who would come after that myth, having heard that particular story himself. But seeing as how she moved, the girl seemed pretty capable-at least, smart enough to not anger any boars without doing so on purpose. So was she a good target? Good enough as any. But such a good, devoted crafter must have some degree of skill, his traitorous mind whispered. I could just follow her and accompany her, and if it turned out to just be a falsehood...well, it would be better than just lazing around and watching people, right? He racked his head. Most of the players who had come for that story that he had watched intensely-or observed-had been on the fringes of the plains, so if there was something...it would most likely be in the very heart of the plains, or as far as they went, which would be pretty damn far, considering that he couldn't make out any mountains or trees in the background. Sighing and equipping his armor and dagger with a flick of his wrist, the boy finally made his way towards the other blonde, making sure that he made enough noise to be detected. Honesty seemed to be the best policy nowadays, apparently, so he tried to go that route. A singular note of hesitance in his tone, he approached the taller girl. "Excuse me? I'm assuming you're here for the material myth, too? I've been here for a while, and I'm not trying to be pretentious or rude, but all the players so far have been going on the edges of the plains, where it's probably more safe, but that means if there are any things left, they're in the center or much farther away. What I really mean, I suppose, I'm trying to ask whether you'd like to team up, so we can have a better chance of getting materials."

Aura continued searching for the materials without actually angering any of the nearby monsters, which made her job significantly easier to do. All she had to do was search under rocks, through grass, and through a lot of other different obstacles. Aura looked frantically for any kind of material, but kept a straight expression on her face the whole time. She was always passionate about crafting in games, but she never let the emotions behind crafting get to her. The emotions that she experienced only motivated her to do better. Aura continued to look, she continued to try and scavenge, she tried to make sure that she could get mate- What was that? Aura quickly turned around to see a smaller boy than her. Was he trying to fight? If he was, Aura simply wasn't going to stand and let him kill her. She had things to craft.      The boy that approached her suddenly started speaking, and Aura looked at him as if she cared, but she really didn't. The boy, at this point, was getting in the way of her search. Aura continued to observe the boy as he asked different things, which didn't impress Aura at all. He was trying to have a shy approach with her, but it didn't matter what kind of approach they made because Aura didn't really care. The boy asked if they could team up as soon as he finished speaking. Aura looked at him with a stoic expression and monotonely replied, "You should've started with that. Now let's go." Aura moved in the direction of the area that the boy had suggested. Since he seemed to be so observant, she thought she might as well take that information and put it to good use. Aura continued to walk, focusing on the materials that might await her ahead.      Aura made a sudden stop when she thought she was near where they needed to be. Aura quickly turned around to face the small boy that was behind her. "Go." Aura pointed to her right and she quickly moved off to her left, ignoring whatever the boy was probably going to say. Whatever he had to say, it could wait. Aura had materials to look for, and she was serious about finally getting herself to level up her tailoring and blacksmithing skills. Aura thought she suddenly saw a small amount of some kind of material lying in the middle of a pile of 3 boars. Aura quickly moved toward the boy, wherever he was, and tapped him on the shoulder. Aura didn't care what he was doing, she just wanted the materials that were probably lying in the middle of the pile of 3 boars not far away from them. "Attack." Aura pointed toward the 3 boars. "Materials might be there." Aura readied her spear as she moved her head to tell the boy that he should go first out of the two. "Hurry."

Kitferge sighed. She didn't have to be so rude, he lamented. Oh, well. Better a stoic, rude player than an useless one, hmm? You try to be polite, and it gets you back again and again. A little sharp-tongued viper, hmm? He smiled internally. You should watch out, little snake, or someone will cut out your tongue someday. But not me. Oh, of course not. It would be so much more amusing to watch you, after all. He dutifully followed her, and when she barked out an order, he barely refrained himself from giggling out loud. What was he, her dog? Honestly. It was so endearing, and so much more entertaining than he had thought. Readying his dagger, he simply walked up and stabbed one of the boars, attacking readily. When it reared back, surprised, he utilized his agility skill, simply side-stepping and backing up, drawing it away from the others. There was safety in numbers, after all. Well, shoot. When he was doing so, he wasn't able to keep it in check all the time, which meant that he got skimmed with a glancing blow. Five points. Damn. Gritting his teeth as he turned, narrowly missing the next lunge, he took his dagger and squeezed the hilt three times, activating his sword art and stabbing it clean through the eye, relishing in the squeal that it made before noticing that his skill had worked and the animal had been paralyzed in place, its red eyes still narrowed in anger and rage, foreleg still pawing the earth mid-motion. Kitferge cleanly cut it two times across the torso, which made it dissipate into a shower of blue and white pixels. Right. He was supposed to help take care of the other two, right? The blonde felt noticeably more tired, most of his energy and focus being devoted to killing that one boar. But there were two more to go, or one, actually, since that pretty-princess styled girl would be fine. She could kill a boar. Bluntly, he walked back to the two boars, and cut one through it's strangely colored hide, making a deep red gash, attracting its attention and a strong head-butt that sent him reeling back a little. Seven points down. Darn. Making another quick cut as he halfway-gracefully vaulted over the boar's back, thankfully confusing it, he made another deep gash along its front leg, severing it completely with a bit of difficulty, getting kicked in the arm. How rude. The girl and this boar would get on wonderfully. When it fell, utterly shocked and enraged at its injury, he took a moment to spear it through the eye again. That was quickly becoming his favorite spot to kill the monster, he mused. It was close enough for him to reach, since it was always in view so the monster could see him, and it seemed pretty delicate, too, helping the monster dissipate. Eventually, the thrumming that he felt pulse in his fingers disappeared, along with the rush of his blood in his ears, making him sigh. What good was a kill with no blood, anyways? It was just depressing. Making sure that the random girl was halfway alive, he nodded and turned back to the place that had attracted the crafter's attention. No materials, of course. He would be pretty surprised if there were. Instead, it was...something else. Whatever. It didn't really matter. Sporting an indifferent expression and dropping all pretenses of shyness, he turned to face the blonde. "It's definitely not materials." Kitferge turned back and made sure that all was calm around them, no packs of boars anywhere near enough to begin to charge. There was the loud sound of swords nearby, and he winced. They would have to go much farther if they wanted anything.

Aura watched as the blonde seemed to be amused by her orders, although she didn't say them in a commanding tone. Though, she did expect whatever she said to be brought into fruition, whether the person she was saying it to wanted to do what she wanted or not. Their own personal reasons for doing things weren't important to Aura. Aura did realize however, that each individual person had a reason for trying to stay alive. That was the only reason why anyone would continue to fight and continue to endure what some say is 'hell'. Although Aura was doing nothing but enjoying herself. Despite the fact that she hadn't crafted anything. That one fact made Aura slightly upset, since the one reason why she even joined this game was to craft.      Aura saw the blonde immediately jump at one of the boars, which made her slightly amused. The boy seemed to be extremely agile, while Aura was the complete opposite. She was slow, but extremely accurate. As she watched the blonde boy continually maneuver around the boar's attacks, she became more and more interested in them. Their fighting style was extremely different and Aura started to think about how lethal it would be if it had a high damage dagger to go along with it. If Aura could only get her hands on some materials to craft the boy a dagger with higher damage, the boy would be a lethal ally to have on her side. It made her get a little more fired up as she watched him stab the boar in the eye with what seemed to be a skill of sorts. Aura had heard that there were skills such as 'Sword Arts' that could help in battle, but Aura never thought to pay attention to what her attack was. When she selected it, she never really thought it would be important, so she just picked random things that might be helpful in a situation for battle. Aura suddenly realized how foolish it was to do that. If I had picked a Sword Art as lethal as that boy's Sword Art, then I could probably get materials much quicker than I will at this rate.      While Aura was mad with herself, she decided to use that emotion on an enemy. She approached one of the boars at the same time that the blonde did. Aura seemed to think that the eye was a good spot to shoot for, only because it was where the blonde had hit before the boar disappeared in a flash of blue and white flecks. Aura approached the boar at her top speed, which wasn't very fast. It seemed to be fast enough to inflict the blow she wanted to despite how slow she was. It didn't take the boar by surprise, but Aura seemed to be a lot more accurate than she thought she would've been. Aura quickly pulled the spear out of the boar's eye as the boar began to charge at her. Aura knew she couldn't dodge, so what was she going to do? If she had a better weapon, she could just block the boar, but since she didn't, she wasn't sure what she was going to do. Aura suddenly found herself doing nothing at all. She felt the boar hit her stomach and she slid backwards as the boar hit her. Aura surrounded her stomach with her hands, feeling like she had just been sucker punched extremely hard. Aura knew that if she took a hit like that in the real world, she would've hurled. This wasn't the real world though. Aura was going to get materials so that she could crush beasts that inflicted her pain.      Aura narrowed her eyes as the boar came to try and hit her again. Aura knew what she was going to do this time. It was simple. She was just going to attack whoever was attacking her. By that standard, it meant that anyone who came within the range of her spear would either be stabbed, parried, or any other kind of defensive maneuver Aura could think of. The boar charged towards her and lowered its head, which would allow Aura's spear to simply skewer the boar using the force that it provided itself. Aura put her spear against her right side and then suddenly felt a strange push behind her, which propelled her forward before she knew it. The boar hit the spear with an even greater force than she thought because she was rushing toward the boar in the opposite direction. The boar slid all the way up the spear and then, the boar suddenly slid all of the way off and a short distance away. The boar had a small cry of pain as its body slid a small ways, but the cry was cut off because it disappeared into blue and white flecks.      What just happened? H-How did she do that? How did she move forward so fast and then kill that boar? She didn't even mean to hit it so hard and she never expected the boar to simply take so much damage because it would get skewered through the torso. Aura had many questions flying through her head about this because she was so confused by what had happened, but then it hit her. That must be my Sword Art! Aura looked at her spear and smiled a little bit. Even though I picked a Sword Art at random, it seems like this will be very useful in the future. If I can find the right tactic to use it with, I could collect materials really fast! But one thing still didn't make sense to Aura. Aura's damage was so low because her strength stat was only 1, so how was it that she killed a boar in 2 strikes? Aura suddenly shook her head, realizing that it didn't really matter. She had killed a boar and now she could go collect the materials that were laying amongst the boars they kill- Wait. Aura took a look at the 'materials' that were lying near the boars. Aura was just about ready to slap herself. This object was nothing close to a material. Aura looked up at the blonde to see if he had any reaction to it, but he seemed to be indifferent.      Aura cursed herself because she had mistaken materials for... A piece of boar shit on a rock. How could she do that? A piece of boar pie on a rock didn't look anything like materials! Though, not that she would know because she had never gotten her hands on materials and had never even crafted anything. Aura verbally cursed herself this time, saying, "Wow. I can't believe I mistook this for... Ugh." Aura stood up and pretended like nothing happened. She got on her stoic face again, but it was obvious that she was angry at herself for making this stupid mistake. As she heard the sounds of swords clashing against boar tusks, the blonde said that the boar pie and rock were definitely not materials. Aura rolled her eyes and simply commented, "No shit." Aura didn't mean this in a way to create a pun, but she was simply saying it back to the blonde as an insult.      Aura started to walk in a direction where there weren't as many sounds being made by swords, but as she walked, she thought she might as well engage in some kind of something with her 'comrade', as some people called it. Aura slightly turned her head as she walked, "Name?" Aura was still going to speak in short phrases and single words because she never really enjoyed conversation unless it was with someone that she knew, but she knew that her own dislike for conversation was contradictory. Aura wasn't going to be able to talk to anyone unless she talked with them as well. Who was going to get to know Aura well without talking to her? Aura knew it would be nobody, but she secretly hoped that someone would deeply care for her like her friend from childhood, Henrik. Aura shook her head slightly to get Henrik out of her head, she didn't need to start feeling feelings that weren't important to the moment that she was currently in. When Aura stopped shaking her own head, she knew that she would hear a response from her blonde counterpart in a second.

Kitferge blinked lazily at Athena from his perch, watching her fight as he analyzed her, clear-headed. She had a high critical rate, something he knew would be very, very useful later on. A small, interested smile grew on his lips as the seconds ticked by. When she got attacked, he got sucked into the battle, watching tiny emotions flit across her face. Surprise. Joy. Arrogance. Hate. Calm. They flickered like a flame, and it was as if he were a mere moth. Patience, little viper, he murmured in his head, watching her loose her control as he shook his head. You have to be careful. Bide your time. Don't lose your control. Play up your strengths. Even you should know that. Get that one hit. That's all you need, just one hit. Wait, and a weakness will present itself without you asking. "Bössan lull, koka kitteln full, där kommer tre vandringsmän på vägen. Den ene, ack så halt, den andre, o så blind, den tredje säger alls ingenting." He began to half-whisper the words of Byssan Lull, a Swedish lullaby that Kathleen taught him, the soft, mournful melody coming through in his memories. He had sang this song to her on the day the game opened, didn't he? It seemed that in Aura's presence, he simply could not stop thinking about her. He began to sing the next few bars, his voice a little rough but pleasant enough nonetheless, prying his eyes from the fight to stare at the blue sky. "Byssan lull, koka kittelen full, där blåser tre vindar på haven, på Stora ocean, på lilla Skagerack och långt upp i Bottniska viken. Byssan lull, koka kittelen full, där segla tre skutor på vågen. Den första är en bark, den andra är en brigg, den tredje har så trasiga segel." The blond paused at the next section, unsure, because this was when Kathleen would join in. He turned, about to say something to her, asking why she wasn't singing, but then he jerked back if burned. That was right. He killed her, didn't he? And you enjoyed it, a little voice in his head added, which he flinched away from. He didn't want to confront the truth right now. He stood, reenergized, and then remembered Aura's words, plopping back down on the soft grass. The warm sunshine welcomed him back again, and the blond stretched, curling up, staring at the vast blue sky. It made him feel tiny, so tiny. And was the sky always this blue? "It’s a nice, bright blue. It seems vast, endless, and somehow so saturated that I wouldn’t be surprised if it shattered in a million pieces, falling upon us. It’s beautiful, so warmly so and inviting that I feel almost afraid, cloudless and infinite. So brilliant that it’s almost unstable; so blue that it seems almost purple; so bright it blinds me. There’s nothing there. It’s empty and lacking, but it hides it with this warmth that’s so fake, so artificial that everyone falls for. No clouds mar it-no one wants to step near this coldly, warmly, paradoxical beautiful canvas. It shifts, but no one notices, grounded only by the sun.” Did he really say that? Kitferge sighs, and merely shrugs, the motion sluggish and slow. It didn't matter now, did it? He refocused on where he was in the song, and hesitantly sang part where Kathleen would break in, only managing to get through another line. "Byssan lull, koka kittelen full, sjökistan har trenne figurer." He couldn't take it anymore and stood up, noting that Aura was finished and walking over to her, giving her a cool glance that was completely devoid of any emotion. "You're okay, right?" Waiting for an answer, he stood for a minute, scanning the immediate danger. Byssan Lull floated into his head again, and he couldn't help but begin to sing again. "Den första är vår tro, den andra är vårt hopp, den tredje är kärleken, den röda. Bössan lull, koka kittelen full, tre äro tingena de goda. Den första är Gud Far, den andra är hans Son, den tredje mild Jungfru Maria." Suddenly remembering who he was with, he cleared his throat a little awkwardly, knowing that the song was rather religious. Perhaps it was something bad-singing a song with a religion not your own.

Aura quickly got the answer she was waiting for. Kitferge. Aura didn't really think anything of it, but could stop referring to Kitferge as the boy or the blonde boy. Even though it saved her time to say the boy, she would still address Kitferge as Kitferge because it was apparently more polite to call people by their name. Aura simply preferred being referred to as a pronoun; she to be precise. Suddenly, Aura realized that Kitferge hadn't stopped talking after saying his name. It probably would've been important to listen to what he had to say, but she was sure that he wouldn't care what she had to say. It seemed like he had quite a few words to say to her, but they didn't register with Aura. After a moment of silence, Aura realized that she no longer needed to say anything. Otherwise, the boy would've spoken again.      Aura continued to walk and the sky began to change color only slightly, but the color the horizon changed to was a deep orange, which suddenly brought her back to her life outside of this game. She pictured Henrik, her best friend. He had the same colored hair that the horizon currently had. Aura suddenly found herself picturing him laughing, smiling, and all other kinds of glad expressions. Aura realized that she missed her best friend. He was the only one who could get Aura to talk and he was the only one to ever get Aura to put her guard down. She never really liked people in general, but there was something endearing about Henrik to her. He was confident, but never cocky. He was kind, but stern when it was called for. Aura shook her head. Not right now. Not right now. I can't do this right now. Later. I can do this later. Aura took a deep breath as she continued to trudge forward to wherever they were going.      Aura heard Kitferge talking to her about enemies that were nearby. Kitferge must've seen something and decided that was where they were going to go, which was fine by Aura as long as she got materials. When Kitferge tried to make a joke at her expense for giving him orders, she didn't laugh. Aura almost never laughed at any joke because she never really thought anything was funny. Kitferge asked permission to go attack, and she simply rolled her eyes. "Go." Aura sat back for a moment, intending to watch the boy fight. She wanted to see him again. It somehow gave her the passion to fight. This wasn't the only reason that she was staying behind though. She wanted to try and get the images of Henrik out of her head because she knew that she couldn't fight with a clouded mind. Aura took a long, deep breath as she calmly watched Kitferge.

Kitferge's eyes narrowed in on his target, stepping neatly between the grass. It seemed that Aura wouldn't be joining him, then. Oh, well. He watched his target. It seemed that someone had already injured his prey, so perhaps the two had been part of a larger group. It didn't matter, did it? As soon as one boar moved away from the other- There. A weakness. His eyes focused on the one on the right. It began to head in his direction, presumably to graze on the tall grass there. It's red eyes didn't see him, and he predicted that it would move around three more yards towards him before he was in its immediate line of vision. So. He played with his dagger for a minute, testing out his strategy. This should have been a much simpler kill than the one before, if you looked at it objectively, but he needed to preserve his HP, since boar-killing wasn’t the point of this excursion. His blue eyes watched the animal, and his weight shifted to his other foot, placing one forward. Testing the ground lightly, he pushed himself off, helping the blonde move more quickly as he darted towards the boar, making a quick slash in its side. While it roared, HP barely dented, he merely retreated, drawing it away from the other. It could have been a repetitive technique, but highly effective-or, at least, it seemed so. After it was deemed far enough from the other, he started to evade its attacks with sidesteps and rolls instead of just running backwards, making shallow cuts that took off HP points one by one. Soon, the boar disappeared into a shower of pixels, and he turned his attention to the other one, still breathing hard. His method earlier had been helpful in not shaving off a health point at all, but now that he realized the amount of physical exhaustion that the style of fighting brought him, he would need a new method. Oh, well. He might as go and fight this one, anyways. He walked towards the animal, idly spinning his daggers in between his fingers. When the animal saw him and reared back onto his hind legs to turn, he rolled his eyes, making a clean cut along its snout, ignoring the slight scrape it made against cartilage. Five points down for the animal. When it whirled around, cut closed and raring to attack him, Kitferge saw the general direction of where it would attack and moved away just before it would appear, making a deep gash over its eye. Not expecting a wild hit from its front leg, Kitferge was pushed back, biting back a string of curses. Five points down for him, too, then. He took his dagger and struck again, pushing himself underneath the boar to make a shallow cut on its abdomen, rolling out on the other side. Jamming his dagger in the ground, he used the weapon to help him get to his feet, about to pull it out when he noticed the boar charging at him again. Well, crap. The blonde moved away from the boar-and away from his weapon. When the boar pawed the ground, huffing angrily, his mind raced, trying to think of a way he could defeat it, face stoic and emotionless. When it was too close for comfort, instead of veering away, he acted on sheer instinct and impulse, kicking it away squarely in the face. Staring in slight surprise at his leg, he pulled it back, stunned. It had actually worked-the boar was shocked enough, so he jogged lightly to his dagger and squeezed the hilt three times, activating his sword art. Making a shallow cut that-surprisingly-glanced off the boar, which was able to paralyze it, Kitferge made two more cuts, which made it dissipate into a burst of blue and white. That was easy-almost too easy, actually, but when you considered the fact that both of them were hurt beforehand, it would seem somewhat reasonable. Once the adrenaline and the sheer rush of battle disappeared, exhaustion seeped into his frame, and he winced slightly. When he turned back to the girl, his grimace was easily turned into a sly grin. "Done," He said dryly, before letting his hand fall back to his side. Kitferge blinked at her, stretching lightly. "Let's move on, then. Unless you see anything else?" Aura watched as Kitferge went to approach the two boars who were damaged slightly. She watched as the small boy hid in the tall grasses before jumping out and performing flurries of attacks, dashes, and dives. Aura watched him with a small interest. Their fighting styles really were very different, her previous thought coming back to her. When she leveled, should she consider putting another point into her agility? It would increase her speed, which right now, was awfully slow. If she moved a bit faster, she could probably kill enemies more relatively easily than she could before. But what if that didn't hold true? What if she just put a point into her strength? That would help out her damage output, and since her critical rate was higher than most, she could do significant amounts of damage if she increased her strength stat. Aura pulled up her stat window and observed her critical rate. 10 percent?! I never realized that it was so high! For a level 1, that's high at least. A 10 percent critical rate is incredible for right now. Though, I definitely sacrifice my other stats for that critical rate percentage. My speed is slow, my damage output is low when it's not a critical rate, but my accuracy is very high and my endurance is decently high too. I really like crafting, but since I have to battle, I should figure out what battle position I fit into. I might as well figure it out while I'm not fighting. Kitferge just seems to be enjoying himself by killing a few boars, but if only I could find some materials!!! I'm sure the myth is just that, a myth. This might be a good chance to kill a decent amount of boars for materials despite the myth being untrue.       Aura looked up from her stat window, surveying how Kitferge was doing against the two boars. It seemed he had singled one of them out and had killed it in a pretty short period of time. She watched the blue and white pixels shimmer in the air until they disappeared from the plane of their existence. Aura focused on Kitferge, trying to see what his facial expression was. Not surprisingly, she found that it was that of joy. Aura wouldn't be surprised if most people wore that kind of expression while fighting. Most people join games of this nature because of the violent aspect of it. This whole situation about it turning into real life probably gives them more a buzz than had before. More adrenaline, a larger feeling of ultimate power against other players and against the enemies that they faced. It was kind of a sad look at all of the player's psyches, but that was what Aura thought. Even when she fought, she found herself being caught as prey to the feeling of bloodlust. It mostly wasn't for the same reasons than the other though. Aura did it because she was desperate for materials, but most other people did it because they wanted to feel that power that they so crave against life. Aura didn't understand how people could find the motivation to kill each other though. Each individual player needed to count on the others in order to clear the floors, but killing off their comrades just makes them that much closer to not being able to return home. Of course, there was always the motivation of never having to be caught and sent to jail for murder, since there would be no evidence aside from their player color. Aura smirked, at this point, she was starting to try and convince herself that it was okay for some people to want to kill others. She shook her head slightly. She wasn't going to convince herself of that. Those people that are killed might be potential customers, and Aura would eventually need all the money she could get, so she wouldn't try to let anyone die.      Aura closed her stat window and observed the rest of the battle with the last boar. Aura watched as Kitferge used a plethora of tactics in order to eventually overcome the enemy that was in front of him. He kicked, he stabbed, he jumped, he flipped, he used all kinds of acrobatic moves. Aura was astonished by just how much Kitferge used acrobatics in his techiques. It was almost like watching ashes dance through the air, which calmed Aura, strangely enough. Suddenly, a large number of blue and white particles had appeared in her line of vision, which let her know that Kitferge had finally killed the other boar. As Kitferge strolled over, he seemed to be quite tired. Kitferge told her that they should move on unless she saw something else. She quickly made a sweep of the area with her eyes, but nothing caught her gaze. "I enjoyed watching you fight. Next time, let me fight." That's all Aura said as she continued on her way to the next group of boars that she could see. As she walked, she suddenly changed her tone. "You're sitting this next one out. You're tired. Don't tell me otherwise. I already saw you after you finished fighting." She turned around and kept a blank expression. "Don't comment on the amount of words I've decided to use. I'm just tired of you thinking I'm commanding you to do everything." Aura turned back around and then continued walking. Aura listened intently to see what the boy was going to say in response to her increase of word usage.

Kitferge sighed and nodded, giving in. "Alright." He followed after Aura, silent, since she didn't seem to want him to talk. His gait was lazy, almost lethargic, really, and he was left to muse about how pretty the grass was instead of doing something productive. He was hit, after all, he agreed on that, but honestly. He wasn't absolutely useless. But he kept those thoughts to himself. Private was as private did. He watched her blonde ponytail sway, utterly enraptured, rather feline-like. The blond almost had the urge to swat her hair, but refrained from doing so with a rather strong instinct for self-preservation. It was fine, anyways. He was definitely not a cat. He returned his attention to walking, utterly exhausted with this all. He could have said anything, but he had a funny feeling that this girl wouldn't have listened. Whisper to the wind, and it shall listen, and then send your words back to you. What could it mean? What could it say? What if you listened to the burble of the wind and understood? Little serpent, do you know the stories of the wind? For what you do not speak comes twice fold to your ears. The blond shook it off, though, following the other. There was no point in stopping just to think. But there was so little to do, he griped, in these plains, except kill boars. You'd think Kayaba would offer some form of entertainment, but no. It was just fighting, day after day. What could his goal be? His mind flashed back to the words Kayaba had spoken. "Right now, you're probably wondering, 'Why?' Why would Kayaba Akihiko, developer of Sword Art Online and the NerveGear, do all this? My goal has already been achieved. I created Sword Art Online for one reason...to create this world and intervene in it." What was the reason behind wanting to intervene? He rubbed his temples, wondering. He hadn't been able to watch Kayaba as closely as he hoped during the introductions, and with nothing to go off of...well, he was screwed if he wanted to try and analyze him. Annoyed, he walked along, finally noticing that they were isolated. Alone, except for tight clusters of boars. "Hey," He jerked his head in some vague direction. "There aren't any players around here right now. We'll have a better chance looking after that myth right now. Unless you want to kill some boars?" He kept his eyes turned away, not wanting to hear Aura's biting comment that was doubtless going to come about how he talked "unnecessarily". But she seemed to care. A little. At any rate, she liked his way of fighting. A small, wry smirk played on his lips, making amusement snake up his neck. On his way of killing? She liked that? Well, the world was twisted anyways, and that was a good enough compliment. He felt some of his energy returning, and kept still, enjoying the warm sun and cool wind.

Aura waited for the male's sassy response. To her surprise, no sassy remark came from the boy. All he said was alright. Alright? That was all he had to say? Aura smirked a little, since she was a little amused by the comment. It wasn't what she was expecting, which happened slightly rarely. Aura usually had a way of reading people, which could allow her to predict their every move. Aura actually hated being able to predict almost everything, but she was amused by this boy. Kitferge, a special name for a very special boy. Aura wondered what kind of person Kitferge was around people he knew, since people tended to act differently when around people they didn't know. Humans were creatures of habit, which Aura thought was unfortunate. Adapting to an environment was something that she thought was fascinating, which is a reason why this game intrigued her so much. Now that they were trapped inside the game, adapting to their surroundings was more important than ever. There was a certain beauty of trying to fight to survive in an environment that is most obviously stacked against your favor. Players died plenty while in the game, being picked off by dire wolves or boars. Natural selection was the other beauty in adapting to a new environment. The weak die because they can't get out of their habits, while the strong continue to live because they are capable of change. Aura thought of herself as a particularly versatile woman who could adapt to most situations. At least, that was her personal view. Aura did not know how she actually acted, since Humanity was inclined to think of itself as superior in every way to everyone or everything else. Despite the denial of that fact by the large portion of humanity, Aura knew that they were just in denial. Just like the people who thought that being stuck inside the game was all a joke, an event, where they would get extra rewards if they stuck it through. Aura could guess where most of those people were right now. Dead.      Aura continued to walk as she spotted a set of three boars. Hmm... Should I take them on myself? Well... It's worth a shot. Aura watched as Kitferge laid in the sun, basking in warm light. Of course he was. Aura had even told him to rest, but she never expected him to actually follow the orders that she gave him. Aura shook off her absolute amazement at this boy, who was blowing through her own expectations of him time and time again. Right now, it wasn't her job to focus on how astounding the boy was, but to kill the boars that were in front of her. Aura had more health, but lower defense. Aura was also sure that she had a high critical rate for her level, which meant that she had a decent chance at getting critical hits against her enemies. Aura slowly approached the group of three boars, which made her feel a bit uneasy. It was three boars. Two more than she had faced only a little while earlier. Aura could barely manage defeating one, so how could she hope to defeat three? Aura tried to imagine how the battle would play out, but no matter how many times she tried to figure out how to win, she always drew a blank.      Aura stared at one of the boars that she was about to face. The one she stared at would be her first target. She moved slowly toward the animal until it became aware of her presence, which made the other two boars get up as well. What?! The other boars got up too?! I didn't think that would happen, but guess I'll just have to adapt. Aura put her spear out in front of her, preparing for the onslaught of boar attacks that were going to come her way. Aura noticed that the three were all charging her in what seemed to be an arrow formation. One boar in the front, while two followed quickly behind. Aura wasn't sure what to do, so she just decided to use her sword art. That seemed to be useful the last time she used it, so she might as well use it. Aura put her spear over her right hip and felt a small push, indicating that the sword art had triggered. Aura waited for the boars to get close enough before she jolted forward with incredible speed, piercing the front boar right between the eyes. The spear was pulled out by the force that the knockback created. The front boar went flying back into the other two, causing each of the boars to be knocked prone. Aura went over to the front boar, which was the closest to her. It seemed to be pretty low on health after her attack. Aura stabbed at it with her spear, while watching the other boars out of the corner of her eye. As Aura continued to stab the torso of the boar, it made a horrible screeching noise, which annoyed her. Aura, in her newfound bit of anger, struck it in the head to shut it up. A bold red number appeared above the place where she had stabbed the boar in the head, a number larger than she usually saw when she struck an enemy. Oh! That must be a critical attack! Hopefully I can get one of those again! The boar vanished into blue and white speckles in the air underneath her spear.      Aura had a small, quick celebration in her head for defeating one of the three boars. Surprisingly, she didn't take any damage yet. Aura spoke too soon as she suddenly felt a large push and a piercing pain in her left hip. Aura flew a few feet as one of the boars charged her and hit her with one of their tusks. Aura quickly noticed that the other boar was going to try and hit her while she was down. Aura's eyebrows curled in as an expression of anger covered her face. I'm going to whip you bastards straight into hell. Aura propped herself up on an elbow and waited for the boar to come close enough for her to insert her spear into the boar's underside. The boar came within a few feet of her, and she quickly forced her spear in an upward motion, striking the boar's underside. The blow that the boar was trying to attempt only backfired against it since the boar's inertia made the blow against it that much more effective. Aura stood up and jolted her spear through the boar's torso. The boar fell over onto its back as a result of this action, which made Aura smile. Aura almost gained confidence in herself before she realized that she was setting herself up for an attack like the last time. Aura turned her head and, low and behold, the boar was getting ready to charge her. Aura pulled her spear out of the boar's torso, which made it squeal in pain. The boar charged her and Aura dodged out of the way, despite her slowness. Aura had enough time to prep herself for the blow, so she was able to sidestep it. The boar continued to run in the general direction of where Aura was standing. As it continued to run, it found an unexpected obstacle in its way. The boar that was lying on the ground. The boar that had ran toward her tripped over the boar that laid on the ground. As the two boars tumbled into each other, Aura readied herself to attack the weakest of the two boars.      Aura raised her spear and quickly thrust it through the head of the boar, another bold red number appearing above her blow. I wasn't expecting this many criticals... Better luck for me then! Aura was now only against a single boar. She had somehow overcome the other two, by some extreme stroke of luck. Aura observed the last boar and tried to anticipate what it was going to do. It was hard to think that it would attack the same way it had the whole time, by charging. Aura knew she wasn't fast enough to dodge the blow that was coming her way, so she might as well inflict some damage against the boar. Aura rested her spear against the right side of her torso, waiting for the exact time to strike.

Critical rate: High. Very slow, but accurate. Easy to rile up. Perhaps a god complex or a ego problem. Her emotions are hard to place and fleeting, thoughts constantly changing as her emotions do, but her goal remains the same: Kill the boars. Good focus, I suppose, but she should’t let her emotions control her. Sword Art’s a little flashy. Is it because of an urge to stand out? Pole-arm is handled well enough, I think. Not an expert in that field. Attacks are fine to me. Her emotions may be clouding her judgement now, if that flash of emotion was any indication. Wonder if I could fight now. Probably not. No, don’t do th-it’s easier to criticize when you’re not fighting, I suppose. My own technique could use quite a bit of work. But I’ve got years to do it. And her…she’s interesting. Pity if she died. Kitferge tossed his head back, fiddling with his braids. Yes, it would be a pity, wouldn’t it? Considering she’s so strange. Could use some work reading people, though. She mistook simple manners for shyness. How idiotic and stupid. Honestly, how much more of an imbecile can you get? Manners seem foreign to her. Perhaps she’s had little to none social contact. Seems to craft pretty well. Perhaps some experience in virtual realities before. Utterly unfazed by this situation, it seems. The only determination I’ve seen before was to get materials. Crafting obsession. Someone might take advantage of that. Perhaps a shut-in with no social experience except online? Possible. Highly unlikely, though. Someone can’t read others like that without some contact. What else? He tried to read her more, look deeper. Ah, her hair and clothing. Possibly very feminine in taste, though bright colors are not her forte. Subtle, soft palette. Interesting. Matches her pale and pastel theme. But that spear. Hmpf. Matches everything. Good taste, maybe? Not my thing. Fashion is not a common thing among suit-and-tie events. Honestly. Observant, is she. Too observant. Possible thing that may tick her future enemies off. And she better be careful with that tongue. A small, amused smile played on his lips, malice around the edges, making it sharp and jagged. His canines gleamed. Yes. She better be careful with that sharp venom, shouldn’t she? Little viper. Ah, waiting for a strike. Emotion is useless against this girl, it seems. How cold, just like Rue. A girl with an ice-cold heart. Funny. I can’t wait until it shatters and she breaks apart as well. Too much like Kathleen to interest me or for me to feel empathy, I believe. How sad. I could have had some real fun with her, pretending to like her and all. But. She’s too different and too alike. Should let her die, shouldn’t I? Or disappear. Fun to think about. Fun to pretend that I could actually do it. Too alike. Too different. If I believed in reincarnation, then I would perhaps believe they shared a soul. But I don’t. She’s welcome to die, then, as soon as we finish. Crafters are a little scarce, with all these fighters-turned-cowards and hero-wannabes. Absolutely pathetic. Kitferge was absolutely bored, blowing idly on a blade of grass to make it whistle before he let it fly away, incredibly, utterly, uninterested. His fingers drew circles in the soft earth, unrooting tiny weeds that were about to grow, the richly-colored dirt clinging in the gentle creases of his skin, hair splayed out behind him. The breeze was warm, almost hot, really, surrounding him in breathy giggles that wafted across his skin and disappeared as soon as he could feel them, picking up strands of his hair and tossing it lightly back and forth, so lightly that he almost couldn’t hear it at all. The sunshine was warm as well, if not as comfortable as Horunka’s, and the grass was soft and firm, never as scratchy as in real life. Idyllic. The sensation of the wind playing with his hair made him stiffen, feeling like someone was carding his fingers through his hair and talking to him in teasing Swedish that he couldn’t understand, a set of locks lighter than his falling on his cheeks, and Kathleen smiling at him as she conferred with Aaron, who also knew Swedish behind cupped hands. One of those days out of many in the park, when all of them were together, Aaron having his nose in some thick tome while Kathleen threaded daisies and small flowers into his hair, Kitferge dozing off and the two others having to wake him up using several different methods before one of them worked. But none of them were here right now. The memory made him tense and stiffen, mind clouded with emotions. This was happening way too often for him to be comfortable, and it was likely all because of this girl, who looked so much like Kathleen that it was scary, like one of those doppelgängers that she believed in. He took a shuddering breath, much too quiet for her to hear, and tried to steady himself, but his limbs twitched spasmodically, despite his attempts to calm himself. He also felt the inalienable urge to stab something, to fight something, to destroy and to watch something meet its demise at his hands, choking on his blade, a red gash appearing but no blood, attempting to tell himself that he did not kill he- Too personal. Kitferge winced. He stood, bringing himself to his feet. His sharp eyes fell on the girl, noticing that she had finished her fight. Lovely. Maybe he could disappear now, fight some monsters on his own. But they were way too deep to survive all alone. He gritted his teeth. Lovely, he repeated. Just…lovely. The sound of a sword hitting flesh erupted from his left, and he whirled, only to see two blond-haired male players arguing over who should have the item that the boar dropped, since they had attacked simultaneously. Perhaps they were not as far in as he had hoped. Kitferge winced at the thought. Just how long would it take before they finally reached the rumored place of the mysterious drops, if it even existed? That was a good tactic, he noted absently, to kill players, if you didn’t want to dirty your own hands. Spread a rumor of something just crazy enough that it would seem plausible and give it a place in a place with monsters. Players will arrive in hordes, and many will kill themselves with their overconfidence and hope. How pathetic. How stupid. His lip curled as he kept his face turned away from Aura, giving her the impression that he was scanning the horizon. How utterly like himself. The blond took a moment to turn, and then cocked an eyebrow at her, telling her that he was fine and they should move on, since players seemed to be having the same idea of going deeper into the plains.

"..." ☒ Kitferge ✐ 000 ✉ It's completely fine! I've made you wait plenty of times, so it's just giving me a taste of my own medicine! Aura Lv1

Aura knew that the boar that was charging at her would be easy to defeat. It was the only one left and compared to fighting three boars at the same time, Aura knew this would feel like a piece of cake. The boar charged her and since she was already in the stance to use her Sword Art, she did. Aura felt a familiar small push behind her and then she experienced herself flying forward; feeling like the wind when it was blowing in large gusts. She saw her spear pierce right between the boar's eyes and the boar flied back after being hit just once. Aura observed the boar's health bar slimming down to the last remains of health when suddenly, something odd happened to the boar that she was fighting. When the health bar seemed to deplete almost completely, the boar began to glow a dark crimson red. Aura became a little confused because she had never heard of a boar that had done something different than dying when hit extremely hard. The boar's name changed from 'Boar Lv1' to 'Borax, The Angered Boar Lv1'. What the hell? What's the point of changing the boar if it can't even fight at a higher level? Aura narrowed her eyes a bit, trying to figure out what she should do. She wished she hadn't used her Sword Art because it probably would've been incredibly useful as of right now. Aura looked at the boar and suddenly noticed that the top exterior had now become plated in some kind of white substance. The best thing Aura could guess was bone, but it seemed like it would've been sturdier than that. The boar's horns extended a little bit, extending the boar's reach to that of equal length to Aura's spear. Aura frowned at this because the only reason why she could defend herself well was because of this reach.      Looking toward the newly 'evolved' boar, it seemed to be incredibly more powerful than before. Aura had really wished that she had put more points into agility. It would definitely be hard going up against this enemy because the top of it was armored and it had much longer tusks, which could probably be used to defend any kind of attack she made. Aura couldn't think strategy, so she decided to strike before Borax even got the chance. Aura was incredibly slow, but it seemed that Borax wasn't prepared for the assault she was making. She had been on the defensive this whole time she was fighting boars, so she was hoping she could at least surprise it a little bit. Luckily, Borax was still a little shaken up after transforming into the state that he was still in. Aura ran past the boar and tried to strike one of its legs as she ran past. She nicked the leg just enough so that it was rendered useless. Huh? I didn't know that you could do something to disable enemies like that... Interesting. I'll have to remember that after I get the materials from this beast. Aura stared blankly at the boar who was now struggling to turn around and face her to fight. "How pitiful. Oh well. I'll be taking materials from you now." Aura walked slowly up to Borax, who had fallen over because he was having such an issue with not being balanced on all four of his legs. The armor that was on his back was probably weighing him down a considerable amount, so there was no chance that he would be getting up anytime soon.       Aura plunged her spear into the boar's torso and she readied herself for the materials that she might receive from this strange enemy. The boar flew into millions of blue and white pixels, almost signifying a party being thrown for her victory. Aura bathed in this moment of relaxation for a moment. She had exerted so much of her energy on this one fight, but she knew she had to keep going. That resolve made her gain an extra amount of energy that she didn't know she had. Aura took a deep breath and returned to the direction where Kitferge was looking toward the horizon. It seemed like he was trying to see where they were going to go next, but Aura knew that that probably wasn't the case. From the few moments that she had known Kitferge, she hadn't noticed that he would take extra care to figure out where they would go next. A general direction, where no one was going to be, was where he pointed them. Not some specific spot that may have actually contained evidence of the myth that she had heard so much about. At this point though, she was sure that this myth was just that. A myth. Aura kind of lost resolve to keep searching anyway. They had battled plenty of boars that day and it seemed that she had probably gotten enough materials to make another weapon for someone. Maybe she could even create her first piece of armor! Oh! I hope I can make my first piece of armor. If I kept it for myself, then people might know that I'm a crafter then. That seems like a logical idea. I'll do that then.       Kitferge suggested that they continue moving on, but she shook her head in response. "I think we can be done. I'm certain the myth is just a myth." Aura stared at Kitferge, trying to see if he would agree with what she had suggested. Otherwise, she was going to go back into town and look at all the loot that she had gotten. If he agreed, she was sure that she would try to craft things for Kitferge if they wanted. Of course, that came with a price, but she wasn't exactly sure what she was going to charge the male for it, if he even wanted better equipment. So? Kitferge. What do you say? Aura suddenly thought of something to make him more likely to agree with him. "If you come with me back to town, I'd make a piece of equipment for you for free. That's only one piece though. You have to provide the materials as well. If you don't want new equipment that will help you get stronger, that's fine, but it seems like you want a weapon or armor that will help you battle more enemies for longer periods of time." Aura looked away with a blank expression, trying to feign ignorance, although it was definitely not working. "But that's just my observation."

Kitferge sighed and nodded, not really caring. The blonde then turned to leave alongside Aura, but then was waylaid by something else. He raised his brows when a rather obvious group of boars were nearby, and it was a triad again, leaving him curious. He didn't even think he could handle that much at the same time again, but challenge beckoned, and where challenge was, Kitferge followed. The boy relayed as much to Aura and then added that if they were leaving, they should at least get a last group of kills in. His dagger gleamed in the light as he readied it, the reassuring weight solid in his grip, and then he exhaled slowly, letting himself focus. "I'll take three or two, it doesn't really matter. But you can show off that critical rate of yours if you'd like, and I'll leave one for you then." He raised an eyebrow, not really caring. "But in any case-" A boar broke the two apart, barreling in between them with deft precision. The orange player cursed lowly and lept back, a cloud of dry earth rising from where he stood. "Well, it doesn't look like we have much time to talk, does it? Au Revoir, mademoiselle." With a smirk curling at the edges of his mouth, the blonde disappeared into the fray. The smell of the hides were sharp and smoky, earthy, even, but strongly unpleasant, and he cringed before driving his copper dagger into the side of a boar's hindquarters. The program squealed, a shrill, unpleasant noise that he absolutely abhorred, and Kitferge grimaced in displeasure before stabbing it again, sliding down low to duck under it and attack the one on it's right, stabbing that one cleanly in the...cheek? Boars did have cheeks, right? Or something akin to cheeks? He made a mental note to go check that fact and continued on with his battle. Duck, dodge that hit, get-he hissed when his shoulder was hit by a particularly well-aimed charge, and Kitferge lashed out, stabbing the boar cleanly in the eye before leaping back, bumping into another boar that he narrowly hit with a quick "x" shaped slash over it's side, grinning in quiet satisfaction before leaving his face blank. No need to get caught idling, after all. He snorted at the thought and continued on with his battle. He was currently facing two, but they were so identical that he struggled to tell them apart. Oh, well. He grinned wickedly and repeatedly stabbed one, leaving a web of red welt-like glowing cuts on the monster's body. It disappeared into a shower of pixels and he was left alone to face the other. His blue eyes then turned to his other opponent, and he let out a small scoff of scorn before lunging back into battle again. He squeezed the grip of his dagger three times in quick succession, and the metal of his blade darkened before he easily cut up a boar and waited a moment for the paralysis to take hold, sighing in relief when it did. The boar was frozen mid-motion, and he narrowed his eyes before moving over and stabbing it casually, making a line of holes from it's eye to the tail, vivid red burning into his vision. It disappeared into pixels and he gave a quick sigh, realizing how tired he was now. Perhaps I need a nap, he thought dryly, before readying his body into an offensive position and rolling his shoulders back. One boar left. He stabbed it in the front left shoulder blade before cursing as he was abruptly gorged by the long tusks it possessed, and took a wary step back before cutting it again, a long gash that ran on the side of it's stomach. He got hit again, and his health dipped dangerously lower, making his eyes narrow. He was at around fifty percent now. The orange player drily thought, forget strategy, and launched himself against the boar, fighting for all he was worth with dangerously quick stabs that almost glanced his own skin. The boar dissipated into pixels, and he sighed in relief, sending Aura a wary glance, now, suddenly. "Um. Well, sorry about that. Anyways, it's getting late, so..." He awkwardly shrugged. "I'm going to head to town now, if you don't mind, since the myth turned out to be a bust." With those words, he silently opened his inventory and took out a port stone, rolling it between his fingers before letting it drop to the ground, shards of blue crystal shattering before his eyes with a flash of bright light. But not before he left the party with a flick of his wrist and a sassy smile over his shoulder. He opened his eyes again and found himself in the Town of Beginnings, or the TOB, as more and more players were dubbing it. Kitferge debated the chances that Aura would kill him versus the need to actually have her as a friend and sighed, utterly fed up with the world at the moment for no true reason at all. A delicately amused smile grew on his face again, and then he headed to the ever-present throng of people that lurked around the Town of Beginnings for no reason at all, ready to disappear into the crowds. It had been a rather productive day, after all.
