Setting: After Hot Springs Incident, Before the Boss Dungeon and Rue's trial. 1:25 P.M. Cloudy and Windy, 30°C(86°F) Months passed since SAO's official release. Almost at the end of December 2022, several hundred casualties afflicted Aincrad's player numbers. Angelo was beginning to feel down at his luck with finding Haruka. About 9 hours of each day was spent trying to find his sister. Did he just have bad luck? Or is he just not looking in the right location? He looked up into the sky. Today was a rather hot day, the sun beating down on Aincrad. Luckily there were several clouds that provided shade and the wind blew through the streets every once in a while soothing him down. He wiped the side of his head with the back of his hand, sweat falling onto the floor. It's getting very close to Christmas.. I wonder if the streets and buildings will be decorated with lights and festivities.. Angelo flashed back to the Christmas party last year. Together with his and his sister's friends and family, they celebrated their well-being and happiness in the Sougetsu compound. It was decorated with snowmen and lights and other festive things the week before Christmas by his family. He had also invited Akane and her family to the party as well, much to the dislike of his father. Thinking back on their time spent together, he realized that his father disapproved of anything Kou did, whether it was the soccer club or the kendo club, or even choosing a smart, funny girlfriend like Akane. The boy looked back down at reality and stared at nothing in particular. He walked towards the notice board and, after seeing nothing he was interested in taking, sat down in the main square. "I might try heading into the dungeon.. I haven't been there yet.." said Angelo rather loudly, hoping for something to happen. Anything would beat looking around for his sister and having no luck with it.

Kitferge idly watched players flicker back and forth, tapping the sharp end of his dagger against his thigh. Honestly, didn't these people have anywhere to be? He sighed, utterly bored, gaze flicking to a white-haired boy who was approaching the notice board. His odd-colored hair made him stand out amongst the other players, and the blonde smiled wolfishly. Hopefully he would be a much more interesting target than those he had observed. Of course, he had to be freakishly tall too, something that players had in common. What was he, a whole foot taller than him? Rolling his eyes sharply, he observed the player. Green. Perfectly innocent, then. It was hot, actually, especially for late December, and Kitferge noted that the boy seemed vulnerable to the heat. Ah. So not a tank-type player or someone who was just too stubborn to show that they, too, could feel discomfort. Once he sat down in the main square, and said something about going into the dungeons, Kitferge paused. That was an absurdly interesting offer. He had wanted to see people act like they normally would in a battle situation, but so far, there had been barely anyone he was halfway interested in. This boy seemed remarkably average, and that was extraordinary in of itself, especially when you considered the situation that they were in. "Excuse me," He asked as politely as he could, tilting his head when he had reached the player, viewing him curiously from his much lesser height. "Did you say you wanted to go into the dungeon? If you don't have a party yet, do you mind if I join?" Well, honesty did seem like the best policy to an...average player.

Rue wakes up and stretches the sheets slid off her showing her light blue pajamas, a small yawn fills the room with a high pitched groan. Rubbing her sleepy eyes Rue looks out the window, the sun was raising just over the town. Stumbling out of bed she stretched upwards and then bending over touching her toes. twisting back and forth should would do stretches to warm herself up to start the day. Slightly more awake after her wake up routine, she would wash her face and brush her teeth, enough though it did not matter this was her morning routine. Making the bed she would equip her weapons and armour. Siding her left foot back and putting her right foot forward, Rue would put her shield at an angle out in front around her midsection. Holding her blade up and pointing upwards to the opponent at her side she would work on strikes and foot work. Heavy steps and light grunts could be heard from the room above the lower part of the inn. Rue would walk down the stair with her weapon sheathed. A jolly looking women would greet the small girl, " Rue, while I appreciate how you clean the room before you leave, I would wish you would do your practises outside. It puts the customers on edge hearing the sounds of battle above their heads". Rue stopped and look to the owner and lightly lowered her head and spoke in a soft apologetic tone. " I am sorry I will reframe from doing my exercises in the room from now on Ms". The woman put her hands to her sides and spoke in a mix of a scolding and joking tone. " You say that every time, and I thought I told you to stop calling me Ms my name is Dorothy. Your not going to stop even if I tell you a thousand times, here I baked some bread for you". Dorothy put a basket of bread on the counter. Rue smiled at the woman's gift and took it and thanked her. " Oh don't thank me dear you know your welcome a the Bird's Nest anytime. This is why Rue liked this inn, a while back some players were causing trouble at her inn and Rue persuaded them to leave. Ever since then she been coming here to sleep and check up on Dorothy and her family. They always augured with her about paying for the room, but Rue always won, Dorothy compromise was that she made her bread on every visit. Leaving the Bird's Nest she walked down the road eating a piece of bread, the soft chewy and crunchy crust warmed her mouth. Arriving at the notice board it seemed rather lacking in jobs. A comment tickled her ears, a person going to the dungeon alone for their first time a bad idea. Finishing her bread she turned to the man, he had white hair and was not very masculine. Rue blink and remember this man from the hot spring. Before she could speak another boy chimed in, he was small smaller then Rue, looked like he was a doll with his pale skin and wavy blond hair and his slight heterochromia with flecks of gold adorning his blue eyes. He asked the man if they wanted to team up, however neither of them have been to the dungeon before." That's not a good idea to go by yourself first time, there are kobolds and traps not to mention the layout can be confusion at times". Rue spoke in a calm, but not cold manner to both of the men. She wiped the crumbs from her face and turned to the hot spring man her amber eyes looked into him with minor disappointment " Also I did not find the person you mentioned before, yet but if I find anything i'll be sure to tell you".

Not really one to believe in luck anymore, Angelo turned around to come face to face (or at least it would be face to face if he squatted a little) with another player. His appearance screamed foreigner in his mind, noticing that the teen in front of him spoke his language. Or rather, was it the Cardinal system's translation process that enabled him to understand what the blonde haired teen in front of him said? In any case, Angelo nodded in acceptance at the other player's suggestion to party up. He was about to swipe down his menu with his right hand when another voice rang out nearby. The boy whirled around to come into eye contact with a familiar face. "Ahh.." Words were about to come out of his mouth as his emerald-colored eyes widened in recognition. He quickly shut his mouth and subconsciously looked around her for the black-haired beauty. Realizing that Janeiro was not there, Angelo looked saddened for a split-second before returning back to normal. He licked his lips as he began to speak. Before he did though, he bowed his head slightly, partly because he was helped by this player and partly because the hot spring incident would have probably made Rue and Janeiro have a bad disposition against males. He wanted to at least try to show this girl if anything that not all men were beasts. "Is the dungeons really that dangerous? But with another person beside you, it should be a lot easier to do, right?" To be honest, Angelo himself wasn't too sure about heading to the dungeons, but he really wanted to check out the place. He had most of the map discovered for the Great Plains, all of it for the Town of Beginnings, Tolbana, and Horunka, and none for the dungeons and the Black Forest. Gathering information about Aincrad to him was just as crucial as it was to defeating each floor's bosses. "Thank you for looking for my sister-" The white haired teenager realized that he had no idea who this young girl's name was, let alone how she could contact him should she actually find her. "Would you be okay with coming with us to the dungeons? I would feel a lot more reassured to have you by our side.." He continued speaking, this time in a lower voice. "And if we could also be friends, that would be.. nice." Angelo brought up his menu and sent both Kitferge and Rue a friend request as well as a party invite. "My name is Angelo. Pleased to make your acquaintance." He bowed after introducing himself.

Oh? A new player had joined them. Cold, but secretly warm, was she? Hungering for warmth that she probably had been denied. How interesting. She was strong, judging by her words, having been in the dungeon and a solo player-not that there was a lack of players like that, seeing as they were only on the first floor. But still, that was quite interesting. A soft side revealed to this boy? They had met, and she was searching for someone for him. A close friend or family member, perhaps. She seemed calm, but such a cold exterior had to be holding back a veritable tempest of emotions. No one, especially him, could hide their emotions without getting a backlash of some sort. He nodded at her words-that was only wise, after all, and he had thought that the two males were going to team up with another player, but it seemed that not the same thoughts were running in their heads. At the other player's question, Kitferge felt the urge to laugh hysterically. Another player making it a lot easier? Maybe ten to twenty percent easier, but not that much. Their chances of survival were slim, especially since...he glanced at the name and health bar hovering over the white-haired boy's head. They were a level one and a level two. "It's still dangerous," Kitferge nodded, responding. "There are traps and monsters, and the more players you have, the better. A single player with you, like me, may help, but there's always danger lurking. Why do you think that we haven't defeated Floor One yet? It's not as easy as it looks, and just one player won't shift your chances to make you automatically win." Swiping his hand down, accepting the invite and the friend request, Kitferge blinked. Well, he was an interesting person, but an utterly predictable one. Honestly, the blonde could have chosen three teen novels that he could play the main character in. Now, the girl, on the other hand...she would definitely be interesting. He tilted his head, listening to the strains of conversation that passed, not able to hear Angelo's words to the girl, but still, barely refrained from rolling his eyes. He was''t that untrustworthy...except he kind of was. "Kitferge," He introduced himself warmly, not showing any of his thoughts as he smiled. "It's nice to meet you, too."

Rue looked at the man as her searched diligently, her eyes narrowed at his displeasure at seeing Rue. When he slightly bowed his head to Rue before speaking. His words gave away his experience with the game, as his words left him the other boy chimed in. His words were more sensible, and his comment on why were still one the first floor is a good way to tell someone how dangerous. Rue nodded at his comment and spoke in her calm tone and expression, " Yes exactly, however if we work together and be cautious about how we move and act, it will improve are chances". Rue waved away Angelo's thanks, she did not go out of her way to look for her only asked people she was talking to. So he is looking for his sister, odd that they would not at least keep in contact. " Don't thank me i did not go out of my way to look for her, and i did not even find her or even information on her". The man would speak again to her asking her if she would accompany them to the dungeon, he would safer if she went with the and then her spoke in a lower voice saying it would be nice to be friends. Looking at the lackluster notice board, showing no quests for the dungeon then looking back to the two. Letting them go by themselves would be selfish, and if they died it would be her fault for refusing to help. Seconds later to message windows would pop in front of her, a party invite and a friends request he would bow and introduced himself as Angelo. Looking at the friends request she would blink and declined the request, but accept the party invite. Looking to Angelo her tone of voice would scold the man. " You should be more careful with who you call friends in this game. There are players who use or take pleasure the suffering of others and profit on their misfortune". Rue would clench her left hand tightly and for a moment, her expression was full of hate. Returning to her normal tone and expression, she would introduce herself." My name is Rue, before we leave we should share each others skills to better work together. I use a sword and shield have detection and perseverance. My arts are a defensive stance which reduces damage and a counter. Rue would finish and wait for the others to share what they offered to the team.

The young girl's words were sharp and showed little signs of compassion in them. Angelo wondered what kind of experiences she had to be who she is now. He frowned as he listened to Rue, frowning even more when he saw the declined request. Kitferge on the otherhand, at least that's what the boy saw when the other person accepted the friend request, seemed friendly enough. The white haired teen simply did not have the amount of traumatic experience that Rue had to 'open' up his eyes to their new life. In a sense, he was still innocent when trying to figure people out.     He had hoped that being carefree and honest would have made the girl open up and break her shell. Angelo was wrong. He furrowed his brows as his emerald eyes looked up at the top corner of his screen. So her name is Rue.. I'll try to remember that.     The introductions were short and quick, probably so they could stop with this awkward situation. Angelo obliged and replied to the both of them. "Curved Sword with Provisioning and Detection. If you need me to make food right now, I can do so right now before we go." He looked at the both of them with earnest eyes before waiting for Kitferge to reply.

Kitferge sighed. Always on each other's minds, were those two? Not even a single thought to the new player. "I work with a dagger. My sword art is focused on paralysis, and all my other attributes are for crafting, so that's not going to be much." Raising a curious eyebrow towards Angelo, he continued on expectantly. "And your sword art? We can't exactly make a strategy if we don't know your skill there." Rue was obviously the most skilled, and Angelo was far too naive to notice the impending danger that might befall them, but he had a higher level than Kitferge. So Rue would be their vanguard, and either him or Angelo should take rearguard and support the two others. It was a simple setup, but he tried to do better, thinking about their attacks. He was guessing that Angelo's attack was focused on damage, and if so, Kitferge should probably make the first strike if they were to use their sword arts, potentially paralyzing the enemy and leaving them much more vulnerable to the other two's attacks. He didn't voice his thoughts, though, instead choosing to lean back and curiously view the other two, swiping down to open his menu and equip his dagger, not sure if he should put on his armor yet. The blonde guessed not.  Kitferge paused, letting the heat rush over him. It was awfully warm today, wasn't it? Shaking the odd thought away, he focused back on the other two, trying to remember their names and clipped introductions. So Rue had a sword and shield, and she was a damage+counter player. That would serve her well if she was on point, like he had suggested mentally. Since he was a more short-range player, though, than the other two, the blade of a dagger shorter, he would need to make sure he wasn't hit before he could strike. His blue eyes flickered between the two, lost in thought while he listened half-attentively to the information provided.

(( Short post to get this group in gear )) Rue looked to the two Kitferge obviously understood the purpose of know each others strengths and weaknesses. Nodding to the small boy she would look to Angelo who seemed to be more interested in, being friends then living through his first dungeon crawl. The set up so far would be her in front, leading and meeting the enemy head on, while Kitferge would flank and disable one while focusing on their foes one at a time while Rue diverted their attention on to her. Rue would stare at Angelo her amber eyes digging into him. Her expression was getting impatient with the man. Just like back at the hot spring, his ability to explain and share information was lacking. How would they possibly be able to converser and plan in a dangerous situation. Maybe it was the heat that was making her less patient with people. Rue sighed as she lowed her head shaking it. Her voice was calm and tinted with disinterest, " If we can't do something as simple as conversing, then exploring a dangerous area would be suicide. I'm not risking my life for a man how can't even grasp simple teamwork". Rue turns and begins to leave while opening her party screen.

The player named Kitferge gave his short introduction about his sword art as well as a reply to Angelo's lack of mentioning his sword skill. "Oh right, totally forgot.." he gathered his thoughts before speaking again after Rue berated him for his lack of conversation skills and his apparent lack in teamwork. He brought up the specifications on Delta Cross. "..and my Sword Art is an offensive series of strikes that has a chance for the target to bleed." The look he had onward was one of depression. Angelo was berated for his lack of teamwork. Was communicating an important part of teamwork? Probably, but he didn't feel like it was a major part in it. He was already trying very hard to get used to the new world, and now he had to work on speaking more coherently? He was already communicating better than he was before the death game. What did they expect of him anyways? It's not like you can turn a regular human being into a killer in a matter of months. It was rather surprising to see that Kitferge and Rue were already assimilated into this new world. Most of the other players he saw were still trying to cling onto their past lives, not wanting anything to do with completing the game. In that sense, wasn't Angelo already doing better compared to them? He kept his thoughts to himself, following Rue towards the gate that would teleport them into the dungeon floor. Almost 2:00 P.M. The sun was beating down on the town, its inhabitants feeling the heat. With his index finger, the white-haired teen would move the collar of his shirt back and forth, creating a vacuum and suction to bring air to his chest. At least the wind was blowing to relieve some of the heat surrounding the three of them. As they walked, he would bring down the menu with his hands, opening up the trade menu and offering both Kitferge and Rue in turn bread and some cream along with a water bottle. After that was done, regardless if they accepted the trade or not, he would bring out his own cream bread and water and begin eating as they headed towards the dungeon.

Kitferge watched Angelo curiously on the outside, but internally, his emotions were churning with a sort of wolfish happiness and predatory interest. So, he felt bad about his communications skills, hmm, and then got mad at something...or someone? Was it resentment? Maybe at Rue? How interesting this was, indeed. It didn't warrant following up, though. But Angelo was a complete and utter fool if he thought communication like that was passable. It wasn't really the words that made it important, but the knowledge of what to do, what to not do, where not to venture, weak spots, and all other sorts of information that needed to be conveyed. You could be the strongest player in all of Aincrad and die to a pack of boars if you didn't know exactly what you were dealing with. Angelo was an utter imbecile. Stereotypical teenage male indeed. In order to fight your way out of the game, you had to be part of the game-listen to how it ticked and breathed and worked. Like a person. His gaze turned back to the two. Exactly like a person, in fact. As Rue and the boy moved on, Kitferge silently followed, taking notes of their little habits. Rue was perceptive, taking in as much information as she could with little glances that built up her knowledge, always alert and ready for battle. She was already an ace player, hmm? And Angelo. By no means was he realistic or perceptive enough for the girl's standards, but he was alert enough, making sure there weren't any obvious attackers. By the time they reached the opening of the dungeon, Kitferge paused, sending a perfunctory glance at the other two. If there was any time to back out, it would be now.

As they ported to the dungeon area. The lack of conversation was unnerving. They walked in silence, the two boys were putting Rue on edge, one was taking the whole situation they were in far to lightly and the other one was just creepy. He stared and examined everything and spoke only to offer input and information, not someone you would want to spend time with on a day off. Angelo trade offer broke her train of thought as she thought about her two teammates and how to possibly, make them work together. Bread, water and cream? Rue had already ate already recently. Accepting the trade offer she would speak to Angelo in a calm voice. "Thank you for the meal, but i'm not hungry right now". Slowing her step she would walk at Angelo's pace and strike up a conversation to break this awkward silence. "You should be more serious and try at least to be at least somewhat cautions". Rue would look at Anglo eating his bread and cream, in a unsafe area like they were on a picnic. Her words were not scolding this time however more friendly advice then commanding officer barking orders at him. Rue did not understand this man, he's looking for his missing sister, but is acting carefree while they walk to what has been a tomb for many players. Looking back in front of her and scanning around the area to make sure their still safe. She would speak in her usually tone but with hints of interest and concern. " Have you found anything on your sister yet"? After her conversation with Angelo she would walk backward nearing the entrance to the dungeon. Looking at the small blond haired boy who had been silent the entire time her eyes would focus on him. " Other than a name, can we get at least some words from you besides small questions and sighs. Your forgetting that teams need to trust each other to work well. Right now I don't really trust you, your off putting in fact almost as worried about you as much as the monsters that await inside". Rue's words were calm but, her eyes narrowed at the boy. He was to much of an unknown and his action made him untrustworthy, while Rue chastised Angelo to teach him and make him a better player Kitferge's words seemed more for personal satisfaction.

Angelo had actually began eating before they would teleport to the dungeon, and would be almost done with his meal when Rue slowed down to his pace. Then again, he was only walking really slowly because he was matching Rue's initial pace. His legs were a lot longer and had a larger stride compared to her's, but he did not mind. She had to be in front as she was the supposed 'tank' in the team. He listened to Rue's advice and nodded once, replying back quickly. "I am being cautious. As a matter of fact, I was always keeping my eye on my surroundings, even while I ate. It just doesn't look like I am." He smiled at Rue and continued walking alongside her. It was true. In his former life, Kou, aka Angelo, was a practitioner of his family's martial arts when he was young. Because of all the years of experience, even if he did quit five years ago, he still kept some of his skills from back then. One of those was to keep his eye on his target and their surroundings. He accomplished this by the use of his peripheral vision. Since he was young, he had a higher concentration of ganglion and receptor cells on the outside edges of his eye compared to other humans. Because of this, he was able to distinguish certain structures clearly without having the need to look directly at it. This gift helped him tremendously during his martial arts as well as normal activities like soccer, walking, and well, looking out for anything out of the ordinary. While this may be a great gift to have, it also makes him look like he's not paying attention to anything in particular at times. Another thing he learned that he still uses today was walking stealthily. Normally, he would walk with a smooth weight distributement from heel to toe, but when required to move fast as well, he would only use the balls of his feet. Knowing where to step was also an important part of stealth walking. He didn't actually walk stealthily this time around however, and instead decided to walk exactly how normal people walked. Little to Rue's knowledge, he spent about 9 hours a day trying to find his sister Haruka, but he did not know what she looked like in game. He knew that her avatar would look like her own face, height, and build, but her hair and her eyes could have been different. He would have needed to see her face to face to confirm if it would be her. Although spending the past three months gave him no luck whatsoever in finding his sister, he still desperately wished for her to be safe and alive somewhere. There were several depressing times when he had almost gave up hope entirely and contemplated suicide. The only thing he would leave behind would be his logs that he wrote whenever something had happened. Angelo continued talking to Rue when she spoke about his sister. "I've been having no luck with finding her yet, but I have placed notices in all the towns so far, including Tolbana and Horunka. I only hope that someone actually sees them and contacts me." He would bring up his inventory and equip his armor. His outside demeanor slowly changed from one of apparent carefreeness to one of alertness. The way he carried himself changed as well as he relied less on his eyes and more on his ears. Any outside sounds except the ones caused by his party would be picked up by Angelo, his senses amplified by his detection talent.

Honestly. What if he just wasn't a very social person? Kitferge felt the tiniest spark of amusement flare up at him, but it was quickly overshadowed by his annoyance. He didn't let it show, though, turning around, expressionless. She thought she was the only one who could be stoic. What utter arrogance. If he wanted, he was going to pick her apart, and utterly demolish her without having to lift a single finger. But it required time and patience. "Well, what do you want to know?" He asked, curious. His eyebrow raised. "I like cats, and heights, but absolutely despise drinking. I can be chatty and then silent, and have occasional mood swings. Oh, and I'm ambidextrous. I used to play an instrument, and I provision and blacksmith. There's a lot of literature that I like. Is that enough information for you to trust me?" He grinned a little, but pushed it off, knowing that the cold girl would most likely reply with a "no". Honestly. Cold to the core, wasn't she? His eyes slid over to Angelo, who seemed to be different, now. More perceptive. How...lovely. This Rue girl was honestly getting annoying. Her arrogance, her pride, her utter ignorance...honestly, how much more snobbish could you get? Kitferge would have loathed her had she not been so interesting. He leaned on the wall right next to the opening casually, not sure of how he needed to react. Angelo seemed fine with him, but this Rue was perceptive. Too perceptive. His eyes narrowed the slightest bit, focusing on a nearby tree. Either she would be a good ally or a terrible enemy. But he was too often underestimated. While he might have been a level one, he was far from useless, and would hold his own.

Angelo would smile at Rue from her comment and retort by saying he's always looking out for trouble. Rue would look at him in disbelief, but would not argue with the boy. Combat would show the truth of his words. Rue would nod and continue walking along side him. She questioned him about his carefree nature and why he's not devoting all his time to finding his sister?
